Agree with @TriplexA. But it can require long hours of research. Self-employment isn't for everyone though as it requires extreme discipline and you have to have a real motive for the business.

It usually starts with a problem, so find a solution for a common problem, for example: Making clothes for cold weather, Problem = Cold weather, Solution = Warm clothing. Boom you have a business idea ( Making clothes for cold weather ). Usually, find something for a painful problem or it can be a product that already exists and you make it better for the customers.
