Help with University choices

I want to study aerospace engineering and have clearing offers from

University of Liverpool
University of Surrey
University of Strathclyde (Aero-mechanical engineering)

What would you pick out of the three there all courses I have an interest in.
Do any have the option of a year in industry?

If you want to do Aero then obviously forget S'clyde.

Both LP and Surrey are good for all Engineering subjects.
Check for placement or 'in industry' experience within each degree - this really adds to your graduate CV.
Liverpool is probably a more interesting place to live - and its certainly far cheaper than living in Surrey.

Liverpool.
For the reasons I've outlined above. You will have a great deal more fun and it will be far cheaper than Surrey.

At 18 id have probably leant with Liverpool for a mixture of reasons, a lot to do with the city itself & geography.

For engineering all 3 are reputable, Strathclyde has quite a strong reputation but I don’t think any of them are worlds apart and engineering employers tend to focus more on applicants & they’re specific application processes rather then university name.

I think Liverpool used to offer pilot studies option on the aerospace course which if you want to be a pilot is a benefit but if not probably nt worth worrying about.

Hi there

It's great to hear you have applied to Surrey!

It's a very difficult decision trying to decide what University is better for you, however some tips I have is to look closer into each course, the modules etc. From there, have a general idea of what course you like better, what modules appeal to you more. You can also look at the University itself, compare the universities based on facilities, support or literally anything you think is important to you for a university to have, You can have a look at accommodation or the town. That way you are taking into account many factors that may help you decide. I would also suggest speaking to your family and friends about each University and see which one you're more passionate about when speaking to them

I hope this helps, and if you do have any questions or want to find out more about Surrey, please let me know!

Surrey is one of the UK’s leading universities for aerospace engineering with our courses ranked top 10 in the UK in The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2022 and the Complete University Guide 2023. As a BEng or MEng student, you’ll have access to state-of-the-art wind-tunnel research facilities and learn from world-leading experts in the field. Our close links with industry help develop your employment skills, while our award-winning Professional Training placements prepare you for roles in various sectors.

You can also hone your practical, teamwork and leadership skills by joining one of our successful and dynamic student competition design groups. These include the UAS Challenge team. We deliver on jobs, too. This is why we were named University of the Year for Graduate Employment in The Times/Sunday Times Good University Guide for 2022. This course is professionally accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and the Royal Aeronautical Society.

Our aerospace engineering courses encompass advanced materials, design, aerodynamics, space systems, propulsion, and the latest in computational and simulation tools. By using our extensive facilities for aerodynamics and materials testing, including our demonstrator jet engine and flight simulator, you’ll put the theory you learn into practice. With our research-led teaching, specialists will guide you in areas such as aircraft and environmental aerodynamics, propulsion, computational fluid dynamics and modelling of flows in gas-turbine engines (with links to our Rolls-Royce University Technology Centre). You can apply to study for either a BEng or MEng. The latter builds on the BEng with a masters year and is a direct route to a masters qualification. Find out more about the benefits of an integrated masters degree.

Congratulations on your offers. I think it's really important to check the modules for the course in each university. It's the same course but different universities tend to have different modules even for the same course. Some universities will have optional modules that focus only on the areas you might not be interested in. Some won't have enough practical projects or research projects (if you like a more theoretical approach to learning). This really helped me narrow down my choices.

Also, the reviews for student and career support. It's important to get a university with a good student support that'll make your integration into the professional sector easier.
