Computer science university

Hello I'm doing a levels 5 subjects and want to study computer science.
Subjects are Pure math, Further Math, Chemistry ,Physics and Russian. I have A grade in Pure math and I have A*,A*,A*,A* as a predicted grades. My current list of universities is Imperial, Ucl, Birmingham, Royal Holloway. I have a question should I change royal holloway to loughborough University and should I change UCL to Edinburgh. I'm fine with all these cities so I can't choose the best list of universities up to now. Is UCL as good as Edinburgh and where it is easier to get in. Which safe choice should I choose Loughborough or Royal Holloway. And if there are some better universities could you send them please

icl im in year 11 but my uncle is a head in a school and is very firmiliar, i asked him and this is what he said:
its honestly up to the person all the school listed are great choices but through personal expierence with students i think you should go with UCL and Loughborough, but honestly it doesnt matter. Through experence ive seen its better to go with a school that has a very good reputation in the field u would like to enter.~hopefully this helps (if you would like him to elaborate he would love to )

Many thanks for you time . I was thinking about to change the UCL since some people are saying that UCL is bad for engineering ,but in Computer science they are on 5th-6th place

Hi! Thought I'd take a shot at putting in a good word for my university haha.

I'm a final-year Computer Science student at Lancaster University and I've had a wonderful time. I would highly recommend! I wouldn't say it's necessarily a "better university" but my experience here has been brilliant and the Computing department has always been so accommodating to me.

Lancaster offers the usual 3-year BSc in Computer Science (link: https://www.lancaster.ac.uk/study/un...bsc-hons-g400/), as well as an MSci which includes a placement, and other specialised Computing degrees such as Data Science, Software Engineering, and Cyber Security. The Computing department has also just improved and changed the course structure so there are many more optional modules to choose from.

Good luck in the future and I'm sure you'll be happy wherever you end up!

Hi thanks for the feedback! Can I ask what A level grades you had to get in? And did you do a placement year?

Hiya! Not sure if this is directed to me but Lancaster's requirements for a BSc Computer Science course is AAB for A-Level. The course page also specifies "Students applying with an A level or IB Higher Level in Computing, Computer Science or Mathematics will be considered for a lower offer." Other qualifications and their requirements can also be seen on the course page I linked in the first post. For your second question, Lancaster doesn't offer a placement year so I didn't do one.

Hope that helps!

Thank you! Good luck for your final year!
Hi @Hamguy22,

Choosing the right university can be difficult! However, I saw that you mentioned Loughborough, so I wanted to comment on your thread.

Loughborough University's Computer Science BSc course is BCS-accredited and provides students with a strong foundation in the critical areas of computer science.

In the 2022 National Student Survey, we came 1st in the UK for overall satisfaction in computer science and the Computer Science BSc course offers students the chance to take a placement year.

Graduates from our computing degrees have gone on to work at companies such as Intel, Microsoft and IBM. You can see the full range of companies on our course page.

To see more information on all the points mentioned above, visit the Computer Science BSc course page here: https://www.lboro.ac.uk/study/undergraduate/courses/computer-science-bsc/

If you have any further questions, let us know - we're more than happy to help! Good luck in your future studies
