getting a kitten - help!!

I am getting another cat (female) but i have a male cat at home.
I will try to set barriers first for them to get to know each other
However my problem is, none of my family are home until 4pm so from 8 till 4pm i cant look after the kitten.
i am getting the kitten during half term when i will be home all the time. But after that I have school so..
my question is, can the kitten be by itself in that time?

Why are you getting a kitten if you’re unable to look after her?
It might? The trouble is you are hoping an animals development and relationships just happen to match your schedule. How old will the kitten be when it arrives? Is there anyone who could pop during the day to check on them?
I work for a website that looks after cats/dogs/whatever when owners need. Google it.

You could have someone come in a couple of times a day to feed, play with and just generally socialise the kitten. Personally though I'd wait until the summer holiday.

Shes 12 weeks old right now. But I heard that they need to be feed maximum every 6 hrs which is just about enough time to get back home and feed them .
Of course they wont be familiar with each other at first which is why im wondering if a week is enough for the kitten to then after be alone ( not with the other cat yet )

Yes that's what I thought, but do you think the kitten would be ok if someone came over to feed and play with it? Or does it need more attention?

Ideally, a kitten should be getting more attention than that. But if you're set on getting it now, like I said, there are services. It won't be cheap though.

There's a lot of sources would say kittens below 4 months shouldn't be let alone for more than a few hours, and over 6 months to tolerate workdays alone. SO much of this is going to depend on how the cats get along from the start, and if they don't you might need to change you plans.

what about if my cat and the kitten could keep each other company, assuming if they do like each other?

I would not trust an adult cat to get along with a new kitten in his territory after just one week,

Can a kitten be left alone during the day.......

Kittens between two and four months of age should only be left alone four to six hours at a time, not a full workday. When they're a little older, around six months, you can be gone all day. But they'll certainly be happier if you can check in on them at lunchtime or ask a friend to stop by.

Be aware of the adult cat being defensive against the kitten if left alone without anyone looking after it until they both able to get on with one another. Cats get jealous of others especially when it comes to there territory, maybe keep them in separate rooms when alone themselves....

Yes thank you. I would keep them in seperate rooms. Also because theyre opposite genders, would they get along better?

because they didn't ever fight - they just ignored each other, well one might hiss at the other if it got a bit too close

No worries
Keep them separate and when you are in try them both together and see how they get on but keep a eye on the situation with them.
Because of them being the opposite genders they are risks that they may eventually mate ( obviously when they both are older) and the female landing up having kittens herself..... If you don't want any litter of kittens from the female them consider having one of them muted.

They may get on together very well but you won't know that until you try it.

i have a male cat , and recently a kitten (female), they were allowed together ,monitored , my kitten kept attacking my cat , but my cat didnt hurt her , he still doesn't - sometimes they fight.whenevr i allowed a stray cat into the house , my male cat would get angry ( this was before my kitten ) , but now that she is here , he tolerates her. they get along fine . i do sometimes keep them separated , i would leave one cat downstairs and one up vice versa.
if you can't take care of the kitten then its better for it to be in a home that can. i love my kitten and cat , and they are honestly amazing .Ma Sha Allah
also , always close the toilet lid ,

Haha, thank you for the tip.
I've now come to the conclusion that i'll buy a 4 month old cat so we can look after it as it will be more independent. This gives me hope they will get along with each other
Thank you!
