Why do stranger women tell me they used to look like me?

Sometimes when I run errands, I notice that older women chat with me and tell me things like - you look slim, I used to be like you... you have long hair, I used to have long hair etc... Why do women do that?
It's not really about you, it's about them. Time starts to fly by your early-mid twenties, and suddenly what feels like a recent thing is actually five, ten, more years ago. It's kind of a way of relating to you I guess, just this sense of 'I feel young, but you probably think I'm not!'. They're probably not doing it to make you self-conscious or anything, really they're just trying to relate I guess.

Speaking as a ‘golden oldie’, we like to remind ourselves that we looked ‘good’ once. It’s a compliment tbh…it’s not weird.
