i was rejected as they didnt consider my portfolio strong enough. usually it's advised to avoid architectural drawings in your portfolio you should try to showcase your artistic strengths, range of media but most importantly your creativity. the open day in the uk is sometime soon but they should hold online webinars too; i attended online as well as in person and they showed examples of portfolios then so look into that.

do you mind telling me in detail what they said specifically in your portfolio was the reason it was rejected.
and what do you mean its advised to avoid architectural drawings so i shouldn't put some of my italian style architecture inside my portfolio and should add reference photos only from the internet. i dont think i understand your answer.

it was something like 'unfortunately your portfolio was not considered strong enough after careful consideration' there wasnt any specific feedback as you have to request feedback and i opted not to.

i meant its best not to include architectural drawings, instead drawings, paintings, sculptures etc of other things you find interesting but if you have architecture pieces that really showcase your talent and creativity then by all means include them, however do NOT and i mean UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES add photos from the internet. some universities may accept your own photography but cambridge only has 6 pages of space so don't waste it on photography. if you go on youtube and search oxbridge art portfolios or cambridge architecture portfolios or ucl architecture portfolios it'll give you visual guidance on what successful applicants have produced

its okay it wasn't my main choice but i have offers and very happy with where im going. just to add, cambridge is extremely competitive so think about how much you value going to cambridge vs studying architecture. in the UK all the courses are pretty much the same as the curriculum is determined by RIBA/ARB (the architecture boards) meaning everyone has to learn the same things so applying to other architecture courses may be a good idea too

If you Google manchester uni architecture portfolio blogspot, you will be able to see lots of examples of portfolios submitted by undergraduate applicants.

Cambridge - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HEstAcYHC8g

UCL - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K0Mim-ogYGg

Also, take a look at post #3 on the following thread where there is good advice on developing a portfolio:

https://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showthread.php?p=96239577

Try to show a range of skills not just drawings. Also, different unis request different things to be included in portfolios so be prepared to adapt it with each application.

Hi, just feel I need to step in here and say that actually, for your portfolio they definitely DO want to see architectural drawings but from observations of existing buildings. They really want to see your ability for this. What they don't want to see is architectural designs of your own, because you do not have the skills or training to attempt this yet. My daughter has an offer from Cambridge for architecture. Good luck.

Not according to the general guidance on the website, although different colleges may have different requirements:

General Guidelines on Content of Portfolios
A final tip is that we don’t particularly want architecture in the portfolio. We want Life Drawing (go to life drawing classes), still life and landscapes in a range of media, preferably from life not from photographs. Ideally you want to do some kind of making project - something you have made- posters, magazine layouts, photographs. Use as wide a range of media as you can. We would also recommend that you keep a sketchbook, showing the different stages of your work as you progress and include images from this. Portfolios should demonstrate the ability to work in a range of media and draw from life. The students will also be expected to demonstrate an understanding of composition and/or design and the ability to work in three dimensions. There is no expectation that students will have carried out any architectural design. You may also want to consult with your art teacher at school - they will have experience in putting together an art portfolio.

Hi, I just submitted my architecture portfolio yesterday for Cambridge but even though I tried my best I haven’t been able to present it well, and I missed a few pieces so that I can submit it on time. Can I possible ask the college I applied for if it would be okay to resend it today as I made a mistake or is it impossible for them to accept that? Would they have a bad impression on me? I also literally submitted the portfolio at 23:58 so I think that already looks bad. Pls help im so scared cuz I put so much effort into the work, the presentation is just not the best quality.
