I’m looking at studying physics at Nottingham Trent University or university of Kent. Which ones better in general and for student life and academics?

Hi there

I can only speak on behalf of Kent as i have studied there for the last few years but I thoroughly enjoy it. There are numerous facilities on campus such as a big library, an on campus nightclub, a range of bars and eateries, co ops, cafes, book shop, gym and sports centre etc. Campus is located around a 15 minute walk into town which has lots of independent shops and restaurants. There you will also find your bigger retail shops, clubs and Canterbury cathedral (this is where you will graduate). There is also a canal where you can take a river boat on a sunny day. I highly recommend doing this as its very picturesque.
My favourite part about the student life is that there is always something to do on campus. The uni runs a scheme called the give it a go scheme where you can take part in a number of activities and meet new people. In the last year this has included activities like painting, rock climbing, puppy yoga, board game nights, pumpkin carving, roller disco etc. Here is a link to the give it a go page if you want to take a look - https://kentunion.co.uk/giveitago
There are also hundreds of societies to choose from and this is a great way to develop a new or pre-existing skill but also make friends. You can go to as many taster sessions as you like and then choose the ones that you are interested in. Here are just some of the societies at Kent - https://kentunion.co.uk/activities
In terms of nightlife there is one club on campus and around 5 clubs main clubs in town. The nightlife ranges from bigger clubs with 3 floors to smaller bars with dance floors. There are lots of independent bars and pubs in Canterbury which also make a great night out for things like pub golf and pub crawls. Some are more casual places but there are also fancier rooftop bars with DJ's such as Socialite. Equally there are lots of places to go out for food!

If you have any specific questions about Kent, please let me know!

Best of luck with your decision

Hey @Manic32_M

Have you looked into attending open days for these uni's? I'd definitely recommend it that way you can get a feel for the campus, facilities, support on offer, student life.

Or you could check out their websites and social media accounts and read student blogs, profiles and vlogs for an insight into student life and their course experience which may be helpful!

Some things you could think about for both uni's:
Compare the modules for each course, do they offer specialised areas of interest within physics that align with your career goals?
Look into what personal and academic support services they offer
Consider the location of each uni
Research the clubs, societies etc
Explore the employment rates and career outcomes from physics graduates from each uni

It all depends on your personal preferences, goals, and what you value most in your uni experience! I wish you the best of luck in making your decision
