Hi there!

In an English Language/Linguistics degree, you typically cover topics like child language acquisition, accent and dialect, language and gender/sexuality, legal language, history of language, Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), language and identity, and many more topics! You also cover basics like grammar, phonetics and pronunciation, and language structures. At Hope, you cover all these topics and more, with the option of completing a placement year: https://www.hope.ac.uk/undergraduate/undergraduatecourses/englishlanguage/

In terms of careers, you can use your TESOL knowledge to teach English abroad, which often pays very well! You can do lexicography, journalism, media research, public relations, speech & language therapy, and so many more careers! Prospects has a fantastic page with more information: https://www.prospects.ac.uk/careers-advice/what-can-i-do-with-my-degree/linguistics

I hope this helps!
