Hi Opheliamatilda,

To attract a Childcare Grant, childcare must be provided by a recognised Childcare Provider, such as:

- Nurseries
- Childminders
- Children's Centres
- Holiday Play Centres
- Schools
- Foster Carers (Cannot be their own foster child)

Childcare Provider's can be registered with the following bodies depending on where they are located.

England - EduBase; Independent Schools Inspectorate; Bridge Schools Inspectorate; Schools Inspection Service; Care Quality Commission
Scotland - Scottish Commission for the Regulation of Care
Wales - Care and Social Services Inspectorate for Wales; The Local Family Information Services (FIS)
Northern Ireland - Health and Social Services Trust

To be eligible for help with your childcare costs through a Childcare Grant you must have childcare which meets one or more of the following criteria:

Childcare which is provided by an OFSTED registered childcare provider (this can include a relative who meets the criteria and is providing childcare away from the childs home)
Childcare which is provided by Care and Social Services Inspectorate for Wales (CIW) - Wales Only
Childcare which is provided by carers approved under the Childcare Approval Scheme (CAS)
Out of hours clubs on school premises run by a school or local authority
Childcare provided in the childs home by a domiciliary care worker registered by the National Care Standards Commission
Care provided by an approved foster carer, provided that the care is for a child who is not being fostered by the foster carer

This does not include:

Childcare provided by the students partner, even if the partner is a registered or approved childcare provider
Childcare provided by a childs relative in the childs home
Childcare provided by a relative away from the childs home and providing care for this child only
Compulsory education or boarding charges (for example school tuition fees or boarding fees)
Providers who do not meet these criteria are ineligible and as a result Childcare Grant cannot be awarded.

Thanks,
Claire
So an ofsted registered nannie is ok?

If your provider falls into one of the categories above and the eligibility stated then it should be fine.

Thanks,
Claire
Thankyou
