Transferring from non-Russel group to RG

So I’ve just started uni at a non RG, love the course but i don’t really like the place, i have mediocre A-levels and would really want to study at York, I’ve heard a lot of people transferring unis after first year. If i do well this year is it worth trying to change for second year with credits? Or will my a-levels matter greatly
You'll need to contact York and it will depend on the course but personally I don't think it is as common as you have heard.

Second-year transfers aren't common and it is likely you would have to meet the A level entry requirements for the new course in addition to achieving a certain grade for your first year. Have a read throught this Transfer FAQ thread:

York have a little guidance about this, but the wording suggests that you'll need to meet the usual requirements.

https://www.york.ac.uk/students/studying/manage/plan/taught/transfers-taught/

"Students wishing to transfer from another University to a programme of study at York

If you want to transfer from a course delivered by another university to one of our programmes for which you meet the entry requirements, this can be considered through our admissions process. We will take completed credit and other study into consideration as appropriate in line with our policies on recognition of prior learning."

And info on Credit transfer and recognition of prior learning.
you might have more chance of moving to York if you're willing to repeat first year
