Hey, im applying for politics AND international relations at 4 universities but I really liked Surrey as my 5th option. However, they only do politics by itself which would have been fine if i hadn't mentioned politics AND ir in my personal statement. I feel like I would just get rejected for not specifying the course at that university and don't think I can take out mentioning the course in the PS.Feel like I might have to apply to Sussex instead even though Surrey is better. Any advice?
I suppose it depends on the grade requirements of the 5 you have picked and if you are likley to meet enough of them to secure a range of offers. But generally I would say only apply to places you actually could see yourself studying at. So put down Surrey and not Sussex

I think I will be able to secure offers based o pure grades, but If I apply to Surrey and just get rejected because I’m not doing the same course as I am at the other ones that’s a waste. Do you reckon Surrey would care as much?
I honestly think it would be fine but you could try contactiong them and asking if you are unsure?

I do think it is worth the risk rather than applying for a course you really don't care for at Sussex
Give Surrey a ring and ask if having a PAIR PS would be an issue for their politics course.

Does their course include any IR modules/options?

Hello,

We do offer both IR and Politics at Surrey! Here's the IR page: https://www.surrey.ac.uk/undergraduate/international-relations & the Politics page : https://www.surrey.ac.uk/undergraduate/politics

I've previously worked with the department on several events and they are so lovely - I've often considered switching myself! Let me know if you have any questions about Surrey or Politics at Surrey 😊

Thanks,

Hi Sam

The question wasn't about the degrees offered at Surrey - it was about whether there would be a problem submitting a joint Politics and IR PS for a single honours Politics degree at Surrey. OP is applying for 4 joint honours courses and single honours politics at Surrey.

Hi Sam,

I meant a joint degree politics and international relations not them separately. All my other unis offer the degree but I love the Surrey pure politics course however it wouldn’t be adaptable to my personal statement. Would they care if I’ve written “politics and international relations” in my PS of Surrey only offers politics or/either international relations?
