The Nazi Hero of human rights John Rabe

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Rabe

This is one of the strangest stories i have ever come across. During the horrific japanese massacre at Nanjing, a nazi ran around waving nazi flags to protect civilians, and displayed incredible personal courage. When he returns to Europe he tries to lecture germany about this, and then he is basically very conveniently pushed aside and swept under the carpet. I am not sure what Rabe thought about jews, and how he reconciled his concern for human life with his nazi beliefs? In fact, he was Oscar Schindler. I think part of this can be explained by some gut reaction when he actually saw what certain things means in practice. and that he at that point reacted instinctively in stead of through ideological persuasion.
