How do I meet people if I'm not at uni?

Hi guys, I'm just wondering if anyone can help me. I went to uni for a short time a couple of years ago, but dropped out as I decided it wasn't for me. I currently have a full time job which I have been doing for almost a year and really enjoy. I am aware of all the benefits of uni (career prospects, independence, the social aspect etc.) but I'm not really interested in a particular course or studying in general. I don't think I would be happy or motivated if I went to uni, and feel that I'm much better off doing my job. This being said, I feel that I am really missing out on the social aspect of uni. I think meeting people is so much easier for uni students because they have people in their flat, people on their course, societies etc. At the moment I'm feeling a bit lonely if I'm honest. I have a few friends from school but not many. I didn't make many friends at college and the ones I did I've lost touch with. I get on really well with my colleagues but most of them are considerably older than me. I'm not part of any groups or clubs. I looked into joining societies at a couple of local universities, but you have to be student to join them. At the moment I feel like I'm just doing my job and not much else. I don't really get to socialise. Is anyone else having the same problem? Does anyone know how I can meet people and make my life a bit more varied? Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thank you for reading

Clubs and societies don't have to be uni based. I bet your local area has a rock climbing club, or a dragon boat club, or a pottery club, or a book reading club, etc. etc.
