Msc in Speech and Language (Pre Reg)

My sister has been offered a place at AECC College and University of Essex for the above mentioned course. It will be great to have a perspective from existing students on their experiences at both places. She will be attending as an international student so the inputs will be valuable. Many thanks

Hey @sanamakda 👋

congrats to your sister on her offer!

This course at Essex is professionally accredited, and is a degree approved by the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC), providing eligibility to apply for registration with the HCPC as a speech and language therapist after graduating. It's also recognised by the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) for the purpose of applying for a newly qualified practitioner membership.

We have a specialist lab with equipment for researching speech including aided simulations and speech recognition, and the UK Data Archive is based at the Colchester Campus and stores national research data.

Studying MSc speech and language therapy at Essex, your sister will be based at our Colchester campus, which is the largest of 3 Essex campuses. We're a really diverse campus with a huge international student presence. We've got students from up to 140 nationalities represented here and a really active student union.

check out our SU website for some more info on the social side of studying at Essex.

There's all the different societies your sister could join, whether that's just the speech and language therapy departmental society or one of the many societies celebrating arts, culture, music, politics, religion, etc. The SU Community Networks work to bring people together from similar backgrounds as well:

Being a campus uni, we have everything you might need, on site in one place. With a small shop, various cafes, loads of study spaces, restaurants, bars and our very own nightclub all in one place. Plenty of on-site accommodation, and the campus security team are available 24 hours a day so it's a very safe atmosphere. We have a gym, with a membership included in your rent if you live on campus. Lots of sports clubs and societies to get involved with too if she wants to. 🏏🎾🏀⚽⛳🏸🎯

The Albert Sloman library and the Silberaad student centre are also open 24 hours a day so there's always a quiet spot to study at any time of the day or night. The Colchester campus is set within Wivenhoe Park: over 200 acres of green space to explore and enjoy the tranquil atmosphere. Some lovely views from the north wing of the library too. 🌲📚🌳

Best wishes to you and your sister in making her choice 😊
