My Postgraduate Experience!

Hello!👋🏻
My names Hannah and I am a masters student! I am currently enrolled in the Msc Psychological Well-being at De Montfort University. I absolutely love it! I won’t lie, it’s very intense and there is a lot of work, but it’s so rewarding and worth it! The transition has been a jump but here are my top tips for success and what a typical day looks like for me!😃I started my masters in October after completing my Bsc (Hons) Psychology. 📓🎓

I graduated and it was one of the best days of my life! I have always loved academia and learning. Psychology has always been a huge interest for me and I knew I wanted to persue a career in psychology. I started applying for masters in my final year of undergraduate as I knew it was always something I wanted to do. A masters course is a lot of work. You really focus on a specific area of your field and become a mini expert. On my course, we have assignments that will prepare us to publish work in the future. We have also had networking events and careers workshops to really help us prepare for life after academia. Assignments are similar to undergrad but they are more focused. They gear you for future careers. They are challenging but so much fun! You have much more freedom to specialise in areas of your interest.

🧠The cohort is a lot smaller too! There are about 25 people on my course so we get a lot more one to one time with academics. They are all so motivated to help us achieve and thrive and become experts in our field. They are always there to help and support. The jump from undergrad to masters was difficult at first but the lecturers helped so much and provided us with so much support!😊

Make sure you reach out to them for help. It’s what they’re there for! Listen to their advice as they will be the ones marking your work. They want you to do the best possible so make sure you reach out!🙂

For me, a typical day will consist of some lectures or workshops. We only have teaching days on Tuesday 9-3, Wednesday 9-11 and Thursday 10-3. These leaves the rest of the time for self study. In these times I will do the set reading for my lectures, do some wider reading and work on my assignments. 📖 I try and stick to a 9-5 work schedule so I can balance my work and personal life. A masters requires a lot of work but it is so important to look after yourself too! You need balance to be able to succeed! Please reply if you have any questions or would like some advice! I hope this helps!😁
