Do i need any prior knowledge to do animation in university?

Hello! I am currently a 16 year old A level student and i apply to university next year and was wondering if i need any prior knowledge in animation to take an animation course or if i should look into other courses instead.

Having work experience would be helpful to talk abut when writing ur personal statement but not necessary.id check each uni course requirements however they will probably just want the a level grades and mabye a english/media/moving image arts a level but hv a look for each course

The most competitive courses will expect to see a portfolio with some experiments in animation in.

Work experience isn’t going to be anything like as important as your portfolio

Have you researched enough to know if you’re interested in 2d, 3d, stop motion, cg animation?
