I've seen that thread before. How the **** is that comparable to Italy? They only started building them 2-3 years ago, and it's not even a proper motorway, it's only like 10-15 miles long, and the lanes are really narrow. Not exactly a proper motorway in my opinion. Southern Italy has 100s of miles of top class motorways.

Also, that's hardly a proper railway network. According to Wikipedia "Although the official maximum speed limit is 80 km/h, the April 2007 edition of the Thomas Cook European Rail Timetable shows that a journey from Shkodër to Tirana (98 kilometres) takes hours."

I mean, what sort of ****** railway network is that? For the size of the country, the railway lines are sub-standard and quite honestly have a tiny coverage. Also, the trains they're using would be museum pieces in Italy. In Southern Italy, there is equally 100s of miles of electrifed railway lines and the trains, and many modern, high-speed trains are used.

I don't get how you can say Albania is as poor as Southern Italy, that's rediculous, you sir, are the idiot, or just blind.

Didn't i tell you to get a map out?
Have a look the country is tiny, southern Italy is connected to the rest of Italy, now compare the contries sizes (as a whole). How big do want the motorways for a country of 3 million plz.
Albania population is around the same as coventry (i think) how many motorways does coventry have? (I mean actually inside Coventry, which reach one side of Cov to the other?)

Coventry has 300,000. Albania has 3,500,000. Coventry has an area of 38.1 sq mi, Albania has an area of 11,100 sq mi.

Also, Albania as actually currently constructing motorways, so clearly it must need quite a lot, it only has 40km of motorway in total at the moment, if you look through that thread there is a map of how many motorways there will be when finished.

Albania is clearly up and coming, however, to say it's as weathy (or as poor), as Southern Italy is not true.

That picture was taken in Octobor 2008, and apprently is fairly typical of Tirana's pavements (or lack of). Tirana is the richest city in Albania, and not even the poorest parts of Italy look that bad I'm afraid
Deep Thought
I thought this was a secret among the the Illuminati...

It is :yep: :shh:
How does a natural disaster have any connection with a country's development!? Italy is very much a developed country! Besides, which other country has lamborghinis as police cars and officers wearing designer uniforms! :awesome:

Italy is one of the most developed countries in Europe - but only in the North. Some regions in the South are amongst the list of the poorest and most underdeveloped parts of Europe.

Where the Earthquake occured was in a town in the region of Abruzzo, which although is more central Italy, it's considered a part of the Mezzogiorno, which is the very underdeveloped South.

There is a North/South divide which pretty much makes up two different countries, because they are so different.

I think one of the reasons for the high death toll however was that L'Aquila is a very old city so the infrastructure is pretty poor...

If your trying to some how prove that Albania is richer/more developed/better than the UK then you are going to fail.

If you have read all my posts then you would realise that my pic of uk is to show Burninginme that yes Albania has building work just as uk (one of best countries in world) does.

My argument is that some parts of South Italy is as poor as Albania fact.

You've shown me a picture of a glitzy shopping mall that in reality only 10% of the population can even afford to visit.

Egypt has glitzy shopping malls, Turkey has them, Thailand has them, Columbia has even Zimbabwe has one or two. They prove nothing. So based on that, all those countries are as wealthy as Southern Italy also.

Whatever mate, you're delusional.

It was from here, clearly stated as a pavement in the street. Or did he walk onto a building site just to have a go at Albania?

Albania's GDP per capita is $6,797. I doubt sothern italy's is that low.

Infact go on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southern_Italy and you'll see that Southern italy's GDP per capita rapes Albania's. End of conversation.

South Italy is as poor as Albania, i have to go out now would love to debate with you more.
Its been over an hour lol

As soon as i get back, we can start it all over again

Albania as most poor countries don't have the health and safety regulations of uk. Building work happens and anyone can walk along side it. They don't partition building work off like they do here (in uk).

Will also post some of my holiday snaps of albania to give you a real view of Albania.
Can I play Poor Parts of Europe Top Trumps please? I'll go Moldova.

is Italy really a developed country, as it couldn't deal with an earthquake?

Complacency occurs in most countries. People just don't think it will happen to them.
