neuroscience? that sounds a bit different...maybe they're just trying to fill their less popular courses or something - i would recommend avoiding that if possible!

I was a bit confused as to why i had to study another subject alongside geology for two years... And do you mean avoid Neuroscience or avoid the Keele offer altogether?

Well - definately avoid neuroscience if you want to study geology, but, yea - on that evidence I would recommend avoiding keele too - after all, if they wont let you do what you want to....

Do you live there or something? To be honest, i have no idea where staffordshire even is! I haven't actually even looked at the uni! I have an open day coming up soon, so that should be interesting!

Yes, I'm glad to be in London now. Staffordshire is a bit crap, so is Keele uni, your other offers sound much more enticing. The closest place for a night out if you go to Keele is Stoke (don't do it) or Stafford (even worse). I hear they have a good time in Cardiff.

Yea - I live near cardiff and can agree the social life is very agreeable - except after they have lost at rugby, in which case I recommend staying at home (also, never admit to being english! :biggrin:

Cariff definately seems to be a very strong university all round, and the sound of the social life is also very appealing! Thanks for the comments about keele, i didn't know very much about the university before now and it is good to be informed!

I kinda need help from all you geologist's out there!

I've been invited for an informal interivew at Bham Uni for Resource and Applied Geology. Right, first off, I havent done Geology before but it's what I'm interested in and my passion is in. So what do you think I can expect in this interview? Any tips would be really helpful!

first off, dont worry!
If its an informal interview - they are hardly going to test you at all - just chat about your interests.etc., it might pay dividends to do a little research into the specific area of the course you find interesting - since then you can explain a little about your passions.etc.
Sadly, there will be no way of knowing the specialisation of the person who interviews you - so ask them, be receptive and seem interested in their area of expertise (remember, even if this is the most boring topic you have heard of, they have devoted their lives to this topic - so if you appear interested that will leave a good impression, even if it is geophysics...)
Finally - just be yourself! a lot of this will be to see whether you are the sort of person the can bare working with - and excessive nerves could be translated into something less positive.

I have an informal interview at Southampton on wednesday! It has been described as a tour and talk day but then goes later on in the letter to say that there will be a chance for informal interview! I am not too worried to be honest, just make yourself sound interesting and enthusiastic about geology and i am sure the rest will take care of itself!

Ahhh....lol. I'm just a little nervous because I havent dont anything specifically Geology related, still I got interests in like tectonics... so i guess if i talk about that, myself and other stuff and whatnot it should be okay :|

Though I'm excited too! Woo. lol.

I hope not all the Uni's I've applied to make me have interviews, I was only expecting it for Bham because I spoke to the admissions tutor personally a few months ago and he said it's so he can apparently give me a written notification saying if i dont get AAB to do the International year I can still do the normal masters year in the UK.

Well thats what i hope.

Most of my offers were given without an interview! The interview which i did have went okay! I was put on the spot a bit, but we had a good debate going and i got to show knowledge from various angles! He said i seemed very knowledgeable so i am keeping my fingers crossed now!

I've just recieved a letter to go to Soton for a Visit Day. So now it's Bham, Cardiff and Soton I've got to go too. Grr. Lol. Hypothetically speaking, if I dont't want to attend one of them, so you think they'll withdraw the offer, because for Soton it says they'd like to give me an offer...blahh..come to the visit day..blah. Lol.

I'm kinda worried why I keep getting these interviews, but I think it's because I haven't done Geology...well I'm hoping that's why. :redface:

Ah righteo..so I will defo go! lol. Ha..I just thought they wanted me to go for the hell of going.

For Cardiff it will probably be either the 7th and 15th of Feburary.

I've got my Bham Visit Day next wednesday...the 30th of November.
