How to examiners mark papers?

For example in AS Biology essay questions if I write a statement that is incorrect ( Or even something that I predict but is not something we studied about) with a statement that is correct do I lose the mark for the correct statement?
I hear in A2 that is the case, but is it mutual for AS?
