Girls, would you be ok with a part-time working husband?

Like I said several times , he makes enough to eat and pay his side of the bills/rent and that's it. No more, no less. You don't have to support him but you're not getting any of his money either.

Well yeah that would be absolutely fine. Covering bills & rent is the main thing and my job involves a lot of residual income which means I don't even work for it so I'd use that for treats.

Ideally I think both working part time would be amazing, two people can definitely live off ~20 grand a year and then you get lots of time together

I agree but there wouldn't be a lot of money for luxuries, ambitions, and emergencies.

Here's a song you can sing

"I wanna talk to you."
"The last time we talked, MichaelYEAH, you reduced me to tears. I promise you it won't happen again."

Do I attract you, jamieTT?
Do I repulse you with my queasy smile?
Am I too dirty?
Am I too flirty?
Do I like what you like?

I could be wholesome
I could be loathsome
I guess I'm a little bit shy
Why don't you like me?
Why don't you like me without making me try?

I tried to be like Grace Kelly
But all her looks were too sad
So I try a little Freddie
Ive gone identity mad!

I could be brown
I could be blue
I could be violet sky
I could be hurtful
I could be purple
I could be anything you like
Gotta be green
Gotta be mean
Gotta be everything more
Why don't you like me?
Why don't you like me?
Why don't you walk out the door!

"Getting angry doesn't solve anything"

How can I help it
How can I help it
How can I help what you think?
Hello my baby
Hello my baby
Putting my life on the brink
Why don't you like me
Why don't you like me
Why don't you like yourself?
Should I bend over?
Should I look older just to be put on your shelf?

I tried to be like Grace Kelly
But all her looks were too sad
So I try a little Freddie
Ive gone identity mad!

I could be brown
I could be blue
I could be violet sky
I could be hurtful

Gotta be green
Gotta be mean
Gotta be everything more
Why don't you like me?
Why don't you like me?
Why don't you walk out the door!

Say what you want to satisfy yourself
But you only want what everybody else says you should want

I have an emergency fund already so that's covered!

We are both very happy living off 12000 a year between us so on 20000 wed be able to afford plenty of luxuries!!
How about we both work part time so we have more time together and actually enjoy life?

It really depends on if he can pay for himself, I would be happy for my partner to work part time as long as he can pay his way and not ask me for money. I think that everything should be equal so as long as he is doing his fair share I wouldn't mind. I think if he is stopping you both from having a better, more secure lifestyle maybe you should speak with him and explain your side of the story.

Will that cause tension? Does he plan on having a full-time career at some point?

(Go benevolent members!)

Haha :five:

He wants to work on some projects at home. They have generated a small income before whilst at university, but he wants to invest more time/effort in it now and see what happens. He has a full-time job as a programmer now, but he hates it.

I don't think it would cause tension, unless he ended up just dossing about at home whilst I work full-time. I doubt that'll happen though, because he's already started working on the projects again on top of a full-time job. I know it's something he's passionate about, so I will support him with it unless it becomes too much of a strain financially.
It wouldn't be a problem if I were working full-time and him part-time, because even though he's only earning enough to cover himself (as you said), I would be earning enough to cover myself too. It becomes a problem if you can't pay the basics - house, electrics, water, food etc. I think both parties should work full time ideally...

It all changes when you bring kids into the equation though. I would definitely want to be the one to stay at home with the baby or working part-time.

Let's say your husband worked part-time like many women do and made enough money to support himself and pay his part of the bills/rent. Would you be ok with that? And this even before any kids are in the picture. Would it be fine with you?

I am fine with that
Why are you asking?

I'd question why one partner in the relationship didnt want to progress money-wise. If both partners had reached a lifestyle level they intended to maintain forever, then it would be no problem if they worked part time to maintain their half of the expenses.

Totally happy with this. As long as things that are required can be paid for, truly don't see the problem. I'd actually prefer it - means I can get a dog! (: but yeah.. don't understand how I could ever say no. If I were doing the same - great. My partner and I do not require 'extra' money to be happy, it helps, but we would rather have time together.

As a guy, I wouldn't want to be earning/working less than my partner, wouldn't be particularly happy about earning the same as my partner either.
