I bought and built my own gaming PC about 2 months ago.

Here is my build

GPU - msi r9 280x (don't watse your time getting r9 270x if you're serious about gaming, cant run high end games on high/ultra with 60fps)
CPU - fx 8350 unlocked edition
MB - asus sabertooth 990fx r2.0
PSU - 600w bronze 80+ (any good brand would do)
HDD/SSD - 7200rpm HDD 1TB ( don't waste ur money on an ssd, not worth it yet )
RAM - 8GB hyperx fury memory DDR3 1600mhz
Tower - corsair 200r ( simple design and very good ventilation )

Umm cost me a total of £680.

To be honest with you, don't get r9 270x, just don't. If you're serious about gaming, r9 280x is the minimum you want from an AMD card.

an r9 270x is fine for 1090p, I know, I have experience with all these cards , heck even a radeon hd 7850 2gb will suffice

mine:
- i5 4670k @4.50ghz
- 8gb ddr3 1600mhz memory
- msi z87-g55 motherboard
- gigabyte amd radeon r9 280x @ 1100mhz core, 1500mhz mem
- coolermaster haf xm case
- corsair h100i cpu liquid cooler
- evga 600w psu
- Toshiba 128gb ssd
- 500gb hdd pulled from a laptop :P

nice rig.

What clocks/mems does your 280x reach overclocked.

Naa it wont. 1080p gaming on max settings with AA ? No way.

AA maybe not solid 60fps but still decent performance

haven't bothered to overclock it as the factory settings are good enough,

Yh 1100 clock is good. You could go higher though if needed couple years down the line. my msi r9 280x reaches 1150 clock and 1550 mem, and I havent even increased the core voltage, just increased power consumption. Mind you, I haven't tried to go higher, since I know I would need to over volt my GPU, and that kills it's life expectancy.

I got lucky with my card, it reaches pretty high speeds without needing to increase voltage.

EDIT:

the gigabyte one comes pre overclocked, so theyve done half the job for you. afaik 280x default clock is 1020mhz.

There are two types of gamers.

The one that doesn't mind 40fps with medium/high settings, and the one that needs 60fps with max settings in his life.

I'm the 60fps guy, with max settings.

What voltage are you running at?

Guys I tried to reply to chantheman's post earlier but it says it's waiting for moderation (no idea why), but I'll put again what I said in that post.

CPU wise I am looking at either the AMD fx 8350 (8 cores) or the Intel i5-4430 (4 cores)

Then for GPU, probably the Sapphire Radeon R9 270X because it's a decent price and can handle games like Battlefield 4 on ultra setting at a decent 40ish' FPS.

For the motherboard, I have absolutely no idea what to get - I don't really know what's good. Other than something that can take the RAM, CPU and GPU I get .

Storage wise, I wanted to get a 1TB HDD for pictures, music and movies. Then for operating system and favourite games I was going to get a Samsung EVO SSD.

I already have mouse, keyboard and monitor.

Thanks

EDIT: oh and for RAM it would probably be 8GB of Corsair Vengeance

If you can get all that for £500, let me know where from! haha

easy

225

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Gigabyte-Motherboard-Intel-Quad-Core-i5-4430-3-0GHz-Socket-1150-CPU-4GB-DDR3-/161379098662?pt=UK_Motherboards_CPUs&hash=item2592f1a026

plus 100 for a graphics card

= 325

what else do you need ? keep your current case, power supply, monitor , keyboard etc.

or raise funds by selling your gpu and cpu/mobo combo on ebay

you can get a 1tb hybrid ssd drive for 80 pounds. it doesn't perform like an SSD, but it's a heck of a lot faster than a HDD.

The 7870 with an AMD (six core) and the Intel (quad core) with 1920x1080 and no AA were benched at 40fps maximum in Ultra and the 270x is a rebranded version with a change to the PCB and the heatsink.

a 2600k better than a 8350 ?

that says it all

When all cores are used, I imagine the 2600k would be pretty much on par with the 8350 but in single core performance the 2600k would dominant with the better architecture and ICP. The 8350 would be superior in overclocking due to the air speed and higher base clockspeed (4 vs 3.4). The 8350 has more cores (well modules in each core) and more l2 (8 vs 1).

The 2600k does have the built in chipset though so if i had the choice, I would take the 2600k for general purpose use and the 8350 if I needed a processor that could cope with multi threads and to oc.

I was looking at the 4760k earlier actually, in a bundle deal with motherboard and memory. You've overclocked it quite a bit then if you're at 4.50ghz!

Unfortunately I cannot afford r9 280x and a better processor. Either one or the other..

So which of these 3 would you say is best?:

1. AMD FX 8320 (OC to 4ghz) and R9 280x
2. Intel i5-4440 (stock 3.3ghz) and R9 280 x
3. Intel 4670k (maybe OC, not sure) and R9 270x.

Thanks,

Sounds good. I recommend a 750+ watt PSU and a high end motherboard so you can easily upgrade

future gpus and cpus will consume LESS power
mine:
-i5 4440
-8GB Corsair Vengeance DDR 1600
-MSI Z97 Gaming 3 motherboard
-nVidia GTX 780 3GB
-Corsair 230T Case
-Corsair CS650M PSU
-OCZ Vertex 4 128GB SSD
-1TB HDD pulled from old PC!

You could probably build something similar for not too much more than £500 if you didn't want the GTX 780! :yep:

Or, more likely, the same power but get more out of it.

He might want to get more cores and stuff which use more power
