History Degree. Am I aiming too high?

Just because History isn't a STEM subject doesn't mean it is crap! If it was, then why doesn't the Russell Group take it off its hard subjects list?
History gives you so many skills, as many as you can gain from a Science degree. Don't bash History because you don't like it, please.

Because many people pay lots of money for a cheap degree.

Hahahahah. Oh right, what skills are you talking about? C++? PHP? Matlab? Surveying? Project management? Accountancy?

Keep telling yourself that - I actually like history but realise a degree in it isn't worth the time or money.

Ffs I obviously didn't mean specialist medicine/IT fields - use a bit of common sense. I'm just saying that history is a very well sought after degree in MANY (not all) fields such as finance, journalism or whatever.

So a vague degree is wanted for vague jobs. Right. As I said before, it's not a degree you do if you want a career.

Wow, congrats! Excellent results, and UCL and Leeds are both fantastic. Where did you end up going? Thank you!

Thank you; I am sure you'll get something similar! I'm currently at Leeds. I had an interview at UCL but it really didn't go well, haha, oops! Regardless, UCL 'weed out' people whose grades aren't quite what they're looking for before interview, so grades were irrelevant! Good luck!

Because I did an AS at a different school last year, my school made me do 3 with them as well (cause they're elitist bastards!) I just couldn't decided what to drop at A2, so here I am, soldering on
Oh, no, the highest I'm required is AAA (York). Applying for A* courses is quite a lot of pressure! I've never been to York (Google Maps all the way) and I'm confused over the colleges thing. I plan to email them on Monday about it, but they'll take a while to get back to me.

Ohhhhhh, I see! I suppose it works in your favour, even though it sounds brutal haha. I dropped English Lit! I'm studying History, Classical Civilisation and Religious Studies at the minute. Yeah, same here. I found youtube videos particularly helpful for looking at universities. You can see tours and 'a day in the life' videos etc. Pretty cool! Google Maps would be really good, never thought of that lol. Yeah, it confuses me. I applied to Durham and you applied for a college through UCAS. Dunno how York works. I prefer old buildings, which is why the city of York is so appealing! Indeed, emailing would be good.

It's worth the time and money if you want to get a PhD in it and want to go into research. It is if you've a natural flair for it and all you've wanted to do since you were 9. It is when you've done a lot of research and actually after 6 months, around 70% of people with history degrees is in employment, while the others are in postgrad or work experience etc.
You know what I think is an useless degree nowadays? Pharmacy. Too many people are going into Pharmacy after being rejected from Medicine and now there's barely any jobs for them.

But then, everyone is entitled to their own opinions. Just don't tell people to "keep thinking that". That's just plain rudeness, in my opinion.

I'm just going to apologise for my never ending defense of History. I hate how people dismiss it so easily!

Thanks! Hoping for A*AA! But who knows.
Leeds is gorgeous. A friend of mine is hoping to get into Audiology there. She went to the open day and fell in love with it. Yeah, the interview aspect put me off a bit in regards to UCL! Yeah, that's so reassuring. Hopefully Kings is slightly more accessible than UCL. Thank you

Yeah i know! Not a clue how it works lol. Wow, they are similar haha. Hopefully since they are respected subjects, they will help our application  A lot of essays! Yeah, I love Class Civ. We do an ancient literature module and an ancient history module! Did Homer's Odyssey last year, along with Athenian Democracy! I hope I can take some Ancient History modules at uni somehow.

So it's worth it if you want to be 0.1% of graduates and get a PhD in it...Good luck in getting funding for a PhD in it.

Also what counts exactly as employment? Just any job? Well that seems a little shortsighted to spend £30k on a degree and then just do a random job which you'll most likely hate for the rest of your working life...

This is hardly anything to do with opinions, but much more to do with what employers look for.

Gotta love some essays, here!
Oh wow! Percy Jackson got me into Greek mythology, and in RS I study Acts of the Apostles and we've touched on Athens (and their democratic set up in Politics.)

Omg I did Acts of the Apostles and Early church history in Rome for AS! Doing Acts, Galations and Corinthians this year, along with continued expansion in the Roman Empire! Yeah, when you see Paul's speech to the Areopagus etc.

Can I point out something here? It'll be me in the debt, and you know what? I can cope with that. History is a passion of mine, and I won't be stuck studying some boring degree I would hate and probably drop out of.
I plan to work and study part time for my PhD, which is fully possible. And no, it's jobs in museums, councils, civil service, researching. I want to do this, and I can. Any degree can make you employable, otherwise universities wouldn't offer those degrees! Why would they waste their money and time (and students' money and time) teaching a degree if they wasn't a chance - just a chance! - of them gaining employment after graduation? It would be pretty pointless, right, to teach that degree?

He was an early applicant, so if that has affected how quickly he's got his offer idk! Offer was A*AA!

Ok! The fact that he applied earlier makes me feel better haha
