The Student Room Group

Best accommodation at U of Leeds (sociable, not so expensive, close to uni)?

So basically, I'm applying to Leeds (I'm international), and I'm checking out some of the dorms they have to offer and they all look at least OK, the en-suite rooms with the 4ft beds look pretty nice! I think that the best accommodation for me would be something with a lot of international students (cultural exchange), sociable, and not far away from campus. I have a couple of friends there - one is at Devonshire and doesn't like it because it's too far away, and the other is at Ellerslie and says it's pretty great, very sociable and on campus, but it's catered, and therefore too expensive, although the rooms look fantastic for a student dorm. I've also read some good comments about the smaller residences (8 North Hill Rd in particular). What do you think?

P.S. Is the catered accommodation better in terms of financial management, i.e. do you save a lot of cash by eating at the cafeteria? What kind of food do they offer?
