If I'm self-financing my degree and am not entitled to any grants, would/should I still apply for student finance?
Also, how does the payment work? At what stage/time would I be required to pay my fee (beginning of the year/end of the year/end of the degree etc)?

Are you a UK resident?
Is your course recognised as eligible for support but SFE (or the funding body for your country?)
Fee payment arrangements vary between university if you're paying them directly - you need to speak with your university to find out what instalments are required when and whether there are any discounts or financing options available.
