Why can't I find a job?

I'm a student who is desperate for a part-time job. I've had three interviews this past month (all unsuccessful, at Mcdonalds, Next and Primark) and just this week, I've applied/handed an application form into at least ten different places. Since when was there so much competition for a simple part time job for a teenager? This is seriously depressing me. :frown:

Should I just keep tirelessly applying?

You can make some serious money for a few hours of work a month.

Look at what you are doing in the interviews!!!! Are you responding confidently? are you enthusiastic enough? etc

If you've applied correctly for 50 jobs this week you will have spent almost every waking hour applying? It takes at least an hour to tailor your CV to each role, research the company you're applying to and then craft a cover letter that sells the reader on how well your skills match up with the requirements of the job.

I've met a lot of people who'll say they've applied for 50 jobs but have actually just uploaded one CV to a website and clicked apply on each one. That's a good way to line the waste paper baskets of 50 offices without ever really applying for anything.

Um no. I applied for 50 on indeed where I have my saved CV. Took me 20 minutes to apply.

I have three part time jobs but it took me ages to get them. Drop me a PM if you like!

Maybe ask for feed back on why they rejected you so you can improve for your next interview/application.

You are trying. keep persevering. You are more than halfway there because you are being interviewed.

Maybe you haven't focused on the sort of 'buzz-topics' that recruiters generally want?
Things like:
- communication skills
- working well in a team
- organisation/reliability
Show that you have these skills by using past experiences and relate them to why they'd make you an invaluable employee

I don't have a part time job anymore but during the early days of my business I did work in an Italian restaurant and
the first rule is
take anything, don't be picky-I started working as a dish cleaner then I got promoted to sous chef with a 66% pay rise in a year
the second rule is
send applications to places directly-i did that I sent 10 job applications with cv's attached delivered locally by hand and I got a job and 3 other returned calls
the third rule is
personality is great-i added some personality to my cover letters mainly things that pandered to the interests of the employers simple stuff like the Italian place I used Italian car asperations and food, the jewellers were easy I just added that I was a lover of quality jewellery and watch kudos with antiques dealers

One of my jobs was an online application (but others at the interview had handed their CVs into the shop), another was handed in after I saw a poster, and the last was word of mouth.

Can I ask how old you are?
