Underage at freshers?

Hey, I am 17, how badly does that affect me going to the Fresher's week? Like am I even allowed to buy tickets, or should I not rush anything at all? Is fresher's week - only parties every single day? Or are there other things going on?

There are other things going on, in the common rooms in the halls and stuff. I'm not entirely sure how it works but I think if you're at uni most people will just presume you're 18 and let you buy drinks and stuff anyway

Yeah I would say just try to keep that you are 17 on the down low
Depends on your town/city and uni. At mine, students under 18 couldn't attend any events, and weren't allowed in bars/club in town either. Most places ID you, so you can't just get by with saying you're a student.

Baffles me why universities offer places to under 18s, yet don't allow them to experience basic uni things.

Hello :-) ,

It depends on the university and their rules at the end of the day.
Like my university during the Freshers events they still ID'd people on the door to the SU because at the end of the day, even if they have a licensed bar, they still have to obey the law of the drinking age. Therefore, I wouldn't rush into buying tickets. You may be allowed into into the bars and stuff to party and enjoy yourself, you just won't be able to buy alcohol. Freshers Week is 'parties' every night but there is a lot of activities and socials going on during the days.

At the end of the day, it's up to you if you want to take the risk.

Best of luck!

I'm fine with not drinking, so I'll try to find ways to still socialise, haha, thank you so much!
