So i'm being predicted 4As...more likely to achieve 3A 1B with loads of work! maybe even AABB!

So far i have
Nottingham: AAA
Warwick: AAB
Leeds hist/philosophy: ABB
Sheffield hist/philosophy: ABB

Don't know what to put as my last choice... also does would any recommend any other good uni's in place of these choices?

thanks

What subjects are you applying for at Nottingham and Warwick?

History...sorry forgot to mention the most pivotal piece of information!

only you can really know that. its what you want to do... need a bit more information, like what is your preferred choice of subjects (you only specified for two universities), what type of university you want to go to, what area etc. i decided by a) what the area was like. i decided i wouldnt go to any university which didnt have green spaces near by, i'd go crazy moving from a village to somewhere which was completely concrete b) i wanted everything to be close by so i picked mostly campus universities c) ideally i still wanted to go somewhere relatively big to experience life in the city d) i wanted to have a year abroad e) went to the place to see what it actually felt like and pictured myself living there f) i looked at what societies they had

those are the kinds of things i looked into and that doesnt even touch in on the course details.... i have to be honest, i didnt look too much into how the courses differed in terms of how they were taught because they all said basically the same things, but if you want to do history which you said for leeds & sheffield i guess seeing what their research interests are can be a good decider. league table positions (although i wouldnt base it too much on this...), stuff like that.

if you really want a suggestion... i loved the feel of birmingham. they should be AAB for a joint honours i think... but the thing is, you have to research it yourself. you know what you want.... i started looking early and so by the time it came to applying i knew what i wanted because things just mulled around in my head and i kept coming back to certain things. sometimes that's the best way to go about it rather than panic...

hi, ive got the same situation, i am predicted 3 A*s and an A - but I am not sure that ill get them, i think ill get A*A*AB.. ive chosen oxford, kings, queen mary as good unis, kent as medium and just in case i dont get offer london metropolitan. mate, you already have good unis, 4 of them, choose one with very basic entry requirements - if you are thinking you will get AABB at least then u will probably get a place, but my advise would be to choose one with very low reputation.

to choose one with very low reputation.

no point in picking a university you know you wont want to go to, so if there isnt one with a low reputation (by which i assume you mean low grades etc) then pick one with a slightly better reputation. at the end of the day if you just picked it because it was easy to get into but dont like the look of you wont really want to go. i dont think its worth it....

where would you recommend low? There is also the edinburgh possibility with 3B's but possibility of rejection! and it's a 4 year course! May look at another joint honours course!

Durham might be worth considering if you think you can get three As, which is what they normally ask for for philosophy or history.

don't they have a minimum gcse requirement? mine were remarkably average, almost all B's

Surely it would be sensible to put down a BBB offer? Just in case? I think Kent ask for three B's for History.

edinburgh isn't 3B's, look at the typical entry requirement, it's actually 3 As. the way it works with edinburgh (i think) is that they put the lowest grade boundary at BBB (UCL does the same, they just give more specific grades for each course whereas edinburgh doesnt), that's not to say that you will get an offer of BBB. particularly not for history as it is so popular there. so although edinburgh is still a possibility for you with your grades (and a beautiful city) dont expect it to be an easy offer...

leicester are quite low i think... not sure. i think it was BBB for modern history but i think my sister said its better to do a general degree and then specialise rather than focus in on modern. how about cardiff? as far as i am aware it is well respected, it's a lovely city, and for history it is AAB or for history & philosophy it is BBB

well, ive given you my advice... also when you say no point in choosing a uni you wont want to go - I'd say that is wrong to some extent because for some people if not most of them it's better do go somewhere rather than get rejection from 5 good unis... you've chosen 4 good ones, just choose 1 with a bit lower reputation that you know you'll get in and work towards getting to the best ones... there are many unis that are good and have lower entry requirements than your predicted grades, you just need to find them... use the times university guide 2010,it's helpful

i didnt say that if its lower reputation you wont like it. i just meant dont pick a university just because it has a lower grades. you have to actually like the place. i do know people who were about to get their results and were panicking because they'd rather not go to uni than go to their insurance choice. you're going to be there for 3-4 years, you want to be happy there. i'd rather reapply, or try and get into a foundation year in art than go somewhere i'd be unhappy.
