Obviously, it's quite a hard thing to guage as very few people would ever admit to being a virgin.

Of things I've read online, and a few people I've asked, the generally estimation seems to be around 30%.

But 70% of 18 year old having had sex seems a little high to me. The way a lot of 18 year old males carry on I'd expect that 50% of them have never seen a tit outside porn.

Discuss.

Put a poll up of whether people were still virgins at the age of 18. If you want some values, no matter how vague.

meh I dunno. All I know is what ever a survey tells you, the real number will be higher since if some guys come into a school or are on the street asking people "are you 18 or over and a virgin?", most people are going to lie about it.

I think really it's going to vary a lot by the area you look at. A council estate it's going to have less virgins then some middle class area I'd say.

I mean say my old college. Obviously not everyone is going to go around saying "omg I lost my virginity!"...but a fair few will or it'll be found out n spread around. However although I wasn't friends with everyone I pretty much new them all, I'd say those who lost their virginity were just about in the minority, or about 50/50. But like I said everywhere is going to be different. Just like saying how many are left handed. You might do 5 classrooms and there's no left handed people, then another class has 5 people.

From my experience at sixth form and my first year at university I would say about 40% of 18-year-olds. But a lot of my friends lost their virginity when they were 18.. so they were and weren't virgins at that age.
I think on the topic of being too embarrassed to admit that you are a virgin, in my experience, guys are and girls aren't (on a generalized level).

Only 70% seems low to me. I only know one or two 18 yr old virgins and they're considered to be very strange people. My group of friends aren't exactly promiscuous either, if anything they're less active than average.

Depends really if people have managed to get a girlfriend/boyfriend by 18. Sometimes it's because people like playing the field and clearly arn't virgins, but usually it's because the opportunity hasn't arrived for them yet to enter a relationship. But MOST teenagers around 16-18 have had a partner and therefore will have had sex. I don't think it really matters tbh, it shouldn't be a race.

I would say for first de facto consensual sex, based on all the figures flying around: 13 or less 3% 14 12% 15 30% 16 55% 17 75%, so 25% still virgins on their 18th birthday.

I am not impressed, as I would prefer people to wait for marriage...

A lot of people I know lost it to someone they weren't in a relationship with.

Hey there! I know this is such a late reply but I’d say anything between 57-63%. It’s quite high but 70 seems like a stretch. I’m just guessing there. Also I’ll happily admit to being a virgin. I’m 18 and I’m quite proud of the fact!
