What's Norwich House like?

Hi to all you fellow Sussex hopefuls!

I'll be starting in October as an undergrad and I'm just so excited!

I'm just curious, though, about a couple of things really.

I'm really looking forward to socialising and meeting new people but I like a quiet place to go back to to sleep!

I've been allocated a single room in Norwich House. Is Norwich House going to fulfil these 'requirements?'

If anybody knows ANYTHING about Norwich House it would be fantastic if you could forward your comments. What's the general atmosphere (are there any parties), are the rooms nice (I've been allocated a single) and is there likely to be wireless broadband access?

Also, anyone here also allocated a room in Norwich House?

Thanks, and I daresay, I'll see you at Sussex!

norwich house is the international/mature students house. i don't know much about it apart from that, except it doesn't have broadband (although it might in the future).

are you an international/mature student?

You'll pick up the Uni connection no problem, because you're so close to the wireless connection at York House, so you'll have ridiculously fast internet access.

Parties in Norwich House...Hmm...I went to 2 last year, both of which were really, really good. The rooms there are quite cool, and you'll be able to sleep fine in them. You're probably going to be closer to your lectures than anyone else, and that's a plus on those mornings when you're lying in bed contemplating sleeping in. Norwich House is cool , but party central is East Slope, and I'm not just saying that because I lived there, it really is.

There's a load of regular students there, it isn't just full of international and mature students! Norwich House and Brighthelm have rooms/houses allocated to them, but they're not forced to live there, so there is a good enough mix.
i've been allocated a room in norwich house and am getting slightly worried as i've heard it's full of international and mature students which wasn't quite what i was hoping for. is it a good mix or is there likely to be about 3 undergrads who are from home n mature?

no no no, norwich is a mix. Last year it just happened that all the spanish people lived together in a huge crowd there. But they had so many parties so it's cool. And seriously, it really doesn't matter too much where you live. You live on the whole of campus! You'll go to parties wherever, all over the campus! and anyway, it's who's at the parties, not where they are really!

I listen to a lot of international music anyway!

If there's a good crowd I might swing that way, wherever I'm allocated!
...Though if they're fans of European house /trance, I'll leave it be. :p:
i called the housing office today and they told me, it's a mix there about 50/50 of international and home. Thats it is really nice accommodation and very sociable. Also a lot of international students may opt to move or something. I just really didn't want east slope so i'm happy. Do we have washbasins in each room?
^

Don't think so. I hope you've looked around, because the rooms in Norwich House aren't much different from the rooms in East Slope!

Hey twinkledust

Which room are you in? We might be in the same flat!

I'm in 10...
i'm in 77. I never had time to look around the accommodation so what's it like? is it nice or dingy?

I have no idea.

I haven't had a chance to look around the accommodation at Sussex either.

During a tour at the Open Day in January we were shown Lewes Court - which is typical really!

The university are only going to show the best accommodation because, naturally, they're going to sell the university when prospective students come to visit.
The Uni shows you around every hall. There's nothing to be embarassed about, the halls do exactly what they're supposed to do. Comparatively, Lewes Court is the nicest, but I guarantee if you were shown around East Slope or Park Village, you'd find them absolutely fine.

People are really quiet hung up on the accommodation thing - YOU LIVE ON CAMPUS!

Don't get me wrong.

I'm very happy to be living on campus.

Just curious about where I'll be living over the next year is all.
Yup, I know

Norwich House is cool though, your little glass fronted entrance hall is cool, and the rooms are really warm...Possibly too warm, make sure you adjust your central heating - Last year the thermostats for all the rooms went on the blink!

It's quite cool living there, because everyone who lives there comes down the same set of steps in the morning, so you'll have the chance to meet a load of people
