Hey =]

I applied to various courses for Egyptology this year.
As part of my five choices I applied for ancient history and egyptology at UCL and Egyptology with Ancient near eastern studies at Oxford, although I only got to interview stage with oxford I was accepted to UCL.

In regards to the best ones in the UK then I think Oxford, Cambridge [ a part of the trio through their arch and anth course] and UCL are probably the best places to do it at. I couldn't comment on Swansea as I didnt apply there but another good place is Liverpool. They have quite a large ancient department and they give a lot of options in their courses along with great opportunities to dig if thats what your interested in.

For myself I got an offer for various different ancient history/ archaeology and egyptology courses from Bristol, Exeter, UCL and Liverpool- I had originally decided to do egyptology at UCL but after a lot of thought I decided to go with the Ancient History and Archaeology degree at Bristol because I thought it was more generalised. I still want to go into that area and I think I might consider it at postgraduate level but make sure that its definately what you want to do at undergraduate and thats its not going to be too limiting! Because that was my fear and thats why I've decided to go with a more general degree but take course modules in egyptian archaeology- then I get more of a full picture and specialise later! =]

I hope this has been of any help to you, if you still have any questions then just ask :smile:
Good Luck

think swansea uni has an egypt centre/museum with huge collection of things and worth a visit.

could do egyptology with other subjects there like history etc
The Swansea Uni course has been updated and is now very good in terms of modules.

For single houours students Egyptain Language is compulsary. And the Amarna Period module looks very good and is extremly interesting.
