Liverpool Medicine Applicants 2011

There doesn't seem to be a 2011 Liverpool applicants thread - no doubt one will appear and make me look like an A* ******** :colondollar:

Good luck, just don't nick my place :p:

Plus, apparently the Liverpool course is going to become less PBL based in the future - I don't know how true this is, just a rumour off the grapevine :bandit:

Personal statement and GCSE grades.

I haven't done the UKCAT yet - I'm doing it on the 23rd of September.

I forget to mention - tropical medicine is strong in Liverpool, and that sounds really interesting.

Tropical Medicine and Vet Med. are extremely strong in Liverpool.

I'm a 2nd year Medic btw, and yes, you're right, the new course is going to be less PBL based but only slightly. PBL is at the centre of how the course is run and that won't change really.

If you have any other Qs, feel free to ask!

Hope some of you will apply to the Lancaster course too - my sister's on it and she needs fresh blood for her socials!

Thanks

So what is the change then, less PBL and a few more lectures?

Out of interest, do you get placements at the School of Tropical Medicine?

It's the same course, as you'll probably know but I think the big drawback is having to watch the Liv lectures on a screen...

Well they basically just provide more support and they've made the lectures more relevant to the PBL, which means going to more than the 10 I went to all year may actually be of benefit!! In other years, they've yet to say what they'll change for you guys but they've already started changing stuff for us!!

I don't think you can get placements there directly, although you may be able to look for SSM stuff there... I'm not sure on that one tbh, but it'd definitely be worth looking into.

What do people think this means (taken from Liverpool website):
"A levels in three subjects taken at one sitting after 2 years of study"? Do they want you to do your exams in one go, i.e. no resits or is it just the whole 2 year thing?
