New to classics-ancient history, advice please...

Classics is not my actual degree but I am doing an outside course this semester in ancient rome, from Augustus onward to Constantine.

I am finding it incredibly difficult to come to terms with the huge amount of resources, dates, latin names.

This week alone we're meant to read a chapter from the prescribed text, the life of Claudius, 1-15 of Tacitus, the autobiography of Augustus, beside many other recommended texts.

This wouldn't be a problem if it were my only subject; the problem is I need also to do a lot of work for Italian and History of art.

Any tips?
I think it might be easier if you're familiar with the emperors and what has happened during their reigns.

Maybe you can make a timeline of the emperors, dividing them into the Julio-Claudians, Flavians and so on, and writing down other names and events you've encountered in the texts?
