Hiya,

I can't comment on your particular course or what it is like at York but I went to St Mary's a few years ago and I absolutely loved it there. The lecturers were great, it's a lovely campus and easy to meet people and make friends.

York isn't expensive :s especially compared to London. Accommodation is around 65 a week whereas London is much much more expensive than that. Plus we graduate in York Minster

AlsO ysj is in York centre so you dont need to spend money to travel. If it's money your worried about I would definitely go to York as it's much cheaper. If you are eligible for the maintenance grant you might get the 1600 bursary from ysj too.

Really? Our halls are cheap. How much is private accom though for second and third years? Have you visited both? It'll probably help a lot. I know ysj is very good for religion courses due to it's background, it's one of our specialisms.

There are a few mature students but they're in the minority still. Campus isn't dead, there are always people around and in the various cafes around the campus. Baring in mind, it's a small campus and a small uni, there are only around 6000 students but this can be a plus as you get a better relationship with tutors. Also, the student union is always full on a night and there are various different things to do there every night, including pound a pint night.
Everyone I know that wants a part time job has gotten one, because it's a touristy city there are loads of restaurants and hotels that need staff.
I've never seen anybody have problems with gay people here, being bi myself I've never had trouble. We have an lgbt society here too

Fine art and English lit. Look at the course modules too and see what you'd prefer to study

I prefer the look of York in some aspects.

Considering St Mary's is in London I didn't think it was that expensive. It was a few years ago now but in halls I paid £75 a week catered and I didn't go for the cheapest hall(s). In fact, all of the halls are catered (or at least they were when I went) and I thought the halls there were some of the nicest I had seen when I went and looked around choosing which uni to go to etc. In second and third year I moved off campus and shared with 4 other girls and rent was £300 per month plus bills but again I could have found slightly cheaper accomodation if I wanted or needed to but found somewhere really nice and it was worth the money.

It's not just the uni that is in a nice place, the whole area around it is really nice with Twickenham in walking distance and it is also really easy to get to Richmond and Kingston for nights out. Prob about 15 mins on the bus to Richmond and if you want to get into central London it's easy enough.

Like I said I don't know anything about the Theology degree at all but what do you mean the Catholic background may be a bit much? Where will you be moving from if you don't mind me asking?

On the weekends at St Mary's the campus was pretty quiet. Not that there wasn't stuff happening at the SU it's just a fair few people at the uni were from London so would go home at weekends for jobs or whatever. Lots to do in Kingston, Twickenham and Richmond though as I say which are all really close by. Lots of options as well when it comes to looking for a part time job. I would really recommend you go and visit. It's a small campus and everything is on the one site so as I say you do get to know people and make friends fairly easy.

Yeah ask at the open day about the program. Lots of people go and ysj also offer the opportunity for you to learn another language.
