Help! Which college should I choose as a PGCE Primary student?

Really overwhelmed by the choosing process with there being so many colleges😖. I’m due to start uni in September as a PGCE primary student so the course will be full on and I’m unlikely to be socialising as much as I would like in my spare time but we shall see... I’m 27 with 2 children and have my own home in Durham so I won’t be living in accommodation but I do want to have a great experience at university, so excited and grateful to be doing it all again and want to make the most of it! So any pointers to a nice, sociable college that have balls close to the education campus would be greatly appreciated, thank you ☺️.

Undergrad applicant here, if I remember correctly, Hild Bede is the closest college to the School of Education. It's a bit of a walk to the rest of the other buildings like the TLC or the Billy B.

I believe the school of education is in the process of moving buildings so this may not be true anymore

Hiya

The school of education is now located on the science site in the Confluence Building. The hill colleges are the closest to that so I'd suggest checking them out. Since you won't be living in anyway, I'm sure catering is not something you have to factor in. All colleges have formals and balls and you'll find a diverse range of people in all of them too. Although if you want gowned formals, only St Marys, Grey, Butler, John Snow, South and Trevs have them. Out of these, St Marys and Grey are the closest to the science site. You can look at the societies these colleges have as well as their facilities like sports, gym, library if you'll be using any of those.

Each college has their own Instagram and maybe Tiktok accounts so I'd definitely recommend checking them out to get a feel of what it's like being a student there and what events they organise. Also have a look at @thedurhamstudent Tiktok account, we have loads of student-produced content showing life around Durham and even in specific colleges. Here are some blogs written by students in the colleges I've mentioned: Life at South; Grey; John Snow; Butler; Trevelyan; St Marys.

Hope that helps
