Peterhouse (Cambridge) Students and Applicants

That is true. Something else that is sooo cool is the fact to one locks up there bikes?!? I mean where I live or at any other uni if you left ur bike unlocked it would get jacked within about 2 minutes. I mean they do sometimes lock the bike to its wheels but its not attached to anything and the front wheel isn't stolen (it would so cool if everyone could do that, but the halfords free bike test obviously showed thats not possible anymore:frown: ).

Huh? Bike theft is huge in Cambridge. People do just lock the wheel to the frame, but I think they only usually do it if they're not leaving it for long. And you will see lots of bikes locked up properly, at least in term.
Oh dear is bike theft really that high? Most of the bikes I saw wernt locked to anything and those that were did leave front wheels unlocked.

Apparently people go round in vans at night time and literally steal loads of student bikes. It's sad, but true.

Was it just me who laughed for about a week imagining a black and white van with 'swag' painted on the side hurtling its way up from London in anticipation of 350 bikes at 3am on a sunday? But yes on a serious notes bikes are easy to steal so people just do. Lock it up properly. You'll notice the ones not locked up are probably from about 1980 so not worth stealing, that's why no-one bothers to lock them.

That made me laugh.

I laughed the first time you painted that picture...possibly.

As for bikes - it depends where they're being left as well. In front of SPT, chances of things being stolen, particularly at night, are quite low. Although I would love to see someone try and lift all our bikes over the gate...Or even through house 4 and out the garden gate (assuming they had an inside aide)...

Hello, thought it was time this thread got bumped!
Anyone had any offers from Peterhouse? I think there are a few having looked at the table of offers.
I have an offer for medicine and Dr Ross-Russell phoned me to say well done - how random but very nice!
Unfortunately I now have to get an A in physics. Damn.:s-smilie:

Well I've got to get an A in electronics to get into Peterhouse, but I'm very glad I've got the offer.
Unconditional here.. as far as I can tell. UCAS is going to take eons to officialise the offer, I just know it. I think I'll have to call in to make sure that there aren't any gremlin conditions lurking round the corner :s-smilie:

I need A at A2 at Economics, History and Further Math, plus a distinction in AEA Economics  . That is RIDICULOUS. Still, I'm happy, even though the next 6 months of my life are irrecoverably lost.

Did anyone else get an offer for Economics at Peterhouse? Any undergraduates who have already gone through this hell, successfully or not?

I feel the same way about my AAAA, I may well contact them to see whether it's written in stone.
I just called to double check, as my letter was quite vague, and thank heavens it really is unconditional! *whew*

:ditto:

Well, except for the best subject part. :p:
Ahh am I the first person to get a Peterhouse rejection? I got it from fifth hand knowledge so I was kinda hoping it actaully said "only kidding you've got an extremly low offer" but when I got back this morning and read it it was so short but sweet (in a good way). Oh and of course the extra bit wasn't at the bottom. Oh well good luck everyone else  .

Hi all

Well done to all those who got offers, and commiserations to spunkym0nkey.
I'm a second-year mathematician at Peterhouse, and willing to answer questions or chat if you want to PM me or add me to MSN.

Also, what is it with the geniuses hanging out in D&D? First Smith, now Craghyrax. *mutters about unconditional offers* Though do note you still have to get an E at A-level for University Matriculation requirements.

I think Craghyrax (how do you pronounce that?) is post A2 level, which explains the unconditional.

Commiserations, spunkym0nkey. Hope you got an offer from somewhere nice and are happy there instead!

I am! I'm a re-applicant. I applied for Natsci at Trinity Hall last year and was rejected. But I'm glad, because I would have had an impossibly stressful time trying to get better grades than I did.. and I really, really wouldn't have lasted in a Natsci degree!
