Work

Hi All,

I just wanted to ask a question really, I am going to uni this sept and have to give up work, although they have agreed to let me know if they have any shifts during the breaks.
My worry is......i wont be able to cope financially...with my mortgage and utility bills, i KNOW i m gonna be in a lot of trouble!

So...does anyone know wht kind of work i could do to fit around my studies??
what hours will i be expected to be in uni?

All advise will be greatly appreciated

Anything in the night and weekends. Bar work, waitress, bouncer, security, etc. (I see that you have a female sign next to your ID but I do know of some places that have needed female bouncers and security). Or maybe delivery drivers, cleaners, etc. All depends on what you are willing to do.

Depends on your course

Why give up your job? Is it a day job?

Thanks, Tesco Sainsbury would be great if i could get a job, tht would just be ideal...i'll go ask them tomorrow..
I am gonna try Macdonalds as well......heard its very very difficult tho :frown:
Most part-time admin jobs are during the day so depending on your hours of classes you may be able to fit work around it. I'm starting an MSc in October and have recently got a part-time admin job that will involve working two full days a week and just mornings (9am-12.30pm) three days a week which suits me really well as my lectures are in the evenings.

I work with adults with disabilities as a support worker.

I find I can pick and choose hours depending on how much I want. I'm full time at the moment but my boss will be giving me part time regular calls once I know when my classes are. It helps that he's really accomodating. When the holidays come around I'll be going back up to almost full time.

I also used to work as a domicillary care worker (going into peoples houses and caring for them there, mostly older people). It one of the few jobs where you can say 'I'll work this morning, and this afternoon' and from my experience, there's always overtime if you want it.

The downside is that you often have to be a driver with own car.

Also, if you can't see yourself in a caring role don't do it. It's definitely not for everyone.

When I went to uni I took the taxi knowledge test and practical driving test and got my Taxi bade. It is the best thing I ever did. While all the other students were working for a crap wage in bars etc I used to pull in over £800 some weeks. Just working a Friday and Saturday you can easily pull in £250 each night. Also you can work your own hours. In the day you can do airport runs, school work etc. I had one job from 7am to 9:30 that gave me 15k per year just taking a disabled child to a school in another county. I also had prison contracts and British rail contracts that paid really well. Best advice is get your badge and get your own car. Don’t drive for anyone else but yourself. Why people want to do crap paid jobs like bar work is beyond me. I am just about to do a second degree and will shortly be returning to taxi work. I may even do it once I graduate as I have not found anything else that pays so well. If you work full time in London you can pull in over three thousand pounds per week (although you would have to put in some hardcore hours)

While I was at uni I also knew a female friend who used to do part time escort work. She used to earn even more than me as a taxi driver for less hours! Although I appreciate it is not every persons choice of work! Best advice is think of what pays and avoid the crappy bar work and other minimum wage jobs.
