I nearly cried today for a good reason! A lovely girl in year 7 stayed behind to tell me how angry she was with the ones in my group who don't behave, and how much she loves French!

Ahh, how lovely! Hopefully this makes the bad times more bearable! x

Aww that's so lovely!

I've got a really loud and boistrous Y8 class who can be a bit of a pain, but there's this quiet, fairly low ability boy who tries so hard and often comes to me at the end of the lesson to ask questions about French, or if I think his French is improving.

I once (when doing cover work before my PGCE) had a Y7 use the dictionary to write "je n'aime pas le francais car gens se comporter mal" which I sympathised with...
Haha I feel that kid's pain!

In other news, my AMAZING head of department is leaving at the end of the year and I'm gutted :frown: she is one of the few good things about my job at the moment so I don't know how quickly I'll be following her, unless her replacement is good I'll probably only give it another year. I was looking forward to next year because nothing major was going to change, yet here we are!

2 out of 3 great HoDs isn't bad, I guess, if this new one turns out to be horrid!

Awh how sweet ^__^

I have to teach an A Level subject that isn't my specialism (or isn't a subject I know anything about really) at a job interview tomorrow.

Bricking. It.

Hi everyone,
Thought i'd finally join in since i've just been sat here reading posts for the past few weeks when infact I could be contributing!

I'm in my second term of being an NQT, started in January. I'm teaching year 3 and coping okay as it stands!

Just found out that instead of having year 3 again next year though, i'll be teaching year 3/4, mixed year groups = nightmare!!

On the plus side, only 2 more weeks left until half term
hey guys,
A quick update, me and another NQT were seen together for about 25 minutes, it was informal. They wanted to discuss things more with the head and tutor. They were happy with the support provided and just gave some recommendations. I just have 1 observation left and my tutor will fill in and send off the final report. I'll be staying at this school from September and see how it goes. (Absolutely love working here)!
Anyone else doing the Sunday afternoon planning sesh or it is just me? All these assessment files sat next to me and here I am on TSR!

Been on it since 11am and only managed marking books and speaking tests, and redoing seating plans! Still 8 books and 1.5 seating plans to go and then I'm giving up :frown:

It has been demanded recommended that we all re-write our seating plans to contain EVERY bit of data on a student that exists, in anticipation of a visit from Ofsted. I don't even know where one of my groups sit- every time I put them into a seating plan they move. If Ofsted come this week, it's guaranteed that I will be seen with them on whichever 2 days they show up. Lovely.

Along those lines, I wish they'd just hurry up and come. Haven't even planned in detail for beyond Monday just in case they turn up- I'd end up scrapping plans if I'd made them!

Think I'm supposed to have an NQT observation before half term but my mentor hasn't mentioned it yet. Maybe she'll let me off because of the faculty review at the start of term??

I know how you feel about Ofsted, it's the same here. Every Wednesday at 2:30pm is a massive relief. I am bricking it. I still don't feel like I've got my class perfect or how I want it, it's still a work in progress, but then in Early Years, I think I will always be evolving. It is scary isn't it. :frown:

Also, I have data coming out my ears, sick of it. These children are 3 years old and there is already reems of data/tracking sheets and predicted outcomes for Y6!

Hmm, I think the faculty review should count as an NQT observation, I would put a copy in my NQT file, ask if that can be counted? The staff might happy to have it as it means they don't have to be released for the obs and can concentrate on Ofsted stuff? Worth asking. The reminds me I have an obs on Wednesday, boo!

Good luck with your planning and assessment!

We were Ofsteded this week and was seen several times. My seating plans only had the child's first names on in some cases as I was losing the will to live in the wee hours of the morning printing them out. I handed the inspectors the seating plan alongside my data sheet and they could easily put the two together. They hardly looked at them, and they didn't ask to see any IEPs, despite me having children in the class with them. Feedback was very positive, both observations 'Good' with no data packed seating plans. I was also seen in a LA monitoring visit the week before and got Outstanding, and again only gave the inspector a basic seating plan with first names on.

Is your Ofsted visit imminent because the school's in a category?

Seating plan-wise they were barely looked at in my faculty review so I know they're not of the utmost importance but at least I can wave them under SMT's noses when they're on walkabout next week.

Ofsted aren't due officially until September but they have been sniffing around in the area, and apparently results may well have triggered an early inspection. I have no idea on what authority everyone has it that they're coming though! One school in the area got a no-notice inspection due to safeguarding concerns, but the others were all apparently due at the time they were inspected.

HI folks!

I completed my PGCE in secondary PE teaching last year and was luckily enough to get a 12 month contract in a local secondary school where i could complete my NQT year.

I found out last month that my contract was not going to be made perm due to lack of funding, but they believed that i would easily find a new job, been an attractive proposition with NQT year done, fresh experience in a challenging school and many qualifications.

The thing is, there is not many jobs out there, and within PE it is very tough.

Does anyone have tips for covering letters and applications?

I really cant bear being unemployed by september :frown:

Thanks

Hope it went well, at least he has given you notice I suppose!

My obs went really well but then after it, we had a safeguarding incident so I am on a bit of a bummer now. :frown:

Glad your obs (NOT ova... stupid autocorrect) went well, shame about the safeguarding incident :frown:

I meant that he could come and observe me any time this term, very worrying!

I nearly cried at my year 9 group today, the slightly less awful one. They just wouldn't be quiet enough to let me speak, then one girl started mouthing off about how what I was doing wasn't working so I needed to try something else, etc etc, so I just sat down in my chair and tried my hardest not to cry! One of them noticed and was like, "ooh she's crying", in a vaguely concerned way. Then they settled a bit more but that was fun!

Just got back from a parents evening, I'm growing to like them now!

I got hit and kicked by a pupil for the first time ever today. I had to stop him from attacking another kid. Didn't hurt or anything, but still quite put out!
