I do say grace before meals, however I have to do it in a separate room so it doesn't make my mother uncomfortable.

Thoughts about a first post re-design?
Oh I need some advice as well. Does anyone have any reputable websites that I can buy Catholic icons of?

I bought one for my sponsor from my local Catholic church but I can't really buy another one from there. Also, I'd like to know the identity of the one I bought my sponsor. It's one of Our Blessed Lady wearing a huge crown carrying a green feather and a shield.

This is the best website I have found for Icons!

It is Orthodox, but the Icons are generally amazing, good quality and good value for money!

I hope this helps!

It depends on what you mean by valid! (In this case what do you mean?)

And I doubt he threw this one in the bin saying its invalid:

Most Icons are painted by Orthodox, although many Eastern Catholics also do so.

My sponsor, who is as Catholic as can be, showed me that website. She has the most amazing icon of Christ (http://www.thehtm.org/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=27_48&products_id=70&osCsid=7cf79fd561a494e0c5586c34ab5b1d4a) from the website.

Are they always painted. The one I bought for my sponsor just appears to be a print.

They are almost always on print (these are particularly well done, if you want to get one, order the ones on wood) from almost everywhere (painted normally need to be ordered in advance). Painted are mostly found in Churches, as they are more expensive. The Print one's at HTM are generally great!

If you want painted ones, here is the only website I have found that sell them for $100-500 (+postage and packaging). But you can get real Gold on them if you want! There is also a far more limited stock than Holy Transfiguration, and they take longer. But maybe it would be worth it in the end!

This is the only UK store I have found online (during a quick search). HTM do deliver to England, and most proper Icons are made/sold in Eastern Europe, Greece, The Holy Land and America (I'm not sure why America!). When I was in Russia and Israel they sold Icons everywhere, but I couldn't buy them, as I had no clue where they were from! The Russian one's were also a bit OTT for moe, and the Israeli one's in Monastery's were extremely expensive!

Oh no! I only want printed ones. I just wanted to be sure if they 'counted' as icons or not.

Here's the one I bought for my sponsor. I haven't given it her yet. But I'm seriously tempted to keep it for myself and get her an alternative. It's stunning, I'm sure you'll agree.

Oh wow! That's perfect for someone very close to me. Thanks for pointing it out! When I have some more money am definitely gonna have to buy it
Check out this one. It's lovely, and in the UK :gah:

Oooh, that's lovely too. I liked the fact the other one was of a shepherd with sheep though. I have a guardian shepherd and often draw pictures of me as a lamb being held in his arms. Weirdly enough I started doing that randomly and long before I realised there's a verse in Isaiah on that theme (Isaiah 40: 11) :o:

'The good shepard' one was so amazing, I would have ordered it as soon as I saw it, if I wasn't going to be confirmed in a week or so!
Does anyone know if the website I posted is reputable?

you are spot on lol. i ONLY know catholics from the Newman soc at oxford. tbh i thought ALL oxford catholics were those types. i didnt know there were any normal ones there!

Original post by The_Lonely_Goatherd
I avoided the Newman Soc and the chaplaincy. Both were too Catholic and too in-your-face for me. So I worshipped in my college's Anglican chapel for three years and learnt far more about my faith there from an Anglican and Presbyterian than I ever did from any Catholic!

See, this is the weird thing, whilst I've been here, I've had very little contact with the Newman Society (partly by choice, partly because I just haven't!). I think the Chaplaincy can come across as "very Catholic" but in reality when you get down to it most people are just normal people from normal Catholic homes and whilst there is an atmosphere of strong traditionalism, I think that's because the Chaplaincy knows that it is pretty much the centre of Catholicism in the University, so it provides a very Catholic service. Despite this however, I've found that if you give it time that they are trying to be there to support you, so you can find your niche.

Definitely this term I've started to meet more people and started to settle in a bit more and recognise people about the place.

I understand, however, everything you've said and I still go to more OICCU events than Chaplaincy ones, because it does tend to be a bit more relaxed...
