Knifepoint robberies rose by 10% in the last year

The number of knifepoint robberies rose by 10% in the year to September, but police figures show overall crime in England and Wales fell by 4%.

Separate figures from the British Crime Survey - measuring people's experiences of crime - suggest crime went up by 4%.

Police recorded 15,313 robbery offences involving a knife compared with 13,971 in the 12 months to Sep 2010 - a 10% increase.

Researchers say the rise is statistically significant.

With Cuts in police numbers and recruitment freezes, the miserable econolic climate and phones getting ever more expensive and fancy, it doesn't look too good does it.
it doesnt look too good at all.

... Did they include the riots in this?
What is the nominal increase?

A 4% increase on 100 is 104.....
It does say that overall crime fell by 4%.

Still if you want to be political about it, delete as appropriate:

- the rise in knife crime is because of an increase in poverty and a response to the cuts

- the rise in knife crime is because of leftists and New Labour creating a society of knife thugs

need to look deeper in statistics

a few years ago the police where not counting some forms of knife crime as violent crime
so all depends on how the question is framed
