Hi, I am going into my second year of primary teaching at aberdeen. I would say psychology is very relevant to your degree. In first year we learned a lot of psychology, in particular educational psychology. We looked at vygotsky and his learning theories. We also learned a bit about Sigmund Freud- his theories about child development. As far as I am aware higher psychology covers Freud. I never took higher psychology, but many on my course did and they found it very useful. I would then definitely recommend it. Are you in fifth or sixth year?

i studied higher pyschology this year. We covered child attachment, daycare, depression, prejudice and memory. although im not going onto study primary education, i'd say as an outsider its very relevant. alot of the studies involve children which offers a deep insight into how children operate. the daycare topic was very insightful as we studied how important good quality care is and how this benefits a child's performance in reading and maths tests. Although i didnt really enjoy the course, i'd say go for it! it will give you information you didnt know about children, let alone humans in general.
