That's not disorganisation, that's just manly organised chaos  but i am trying to be organised nowadays - like I'm determined to not let my room get messy when i get to lancaster :') I know, i'll be severely disappointed if i finish freshers feeling well rested!

Haha if you say so! Same, or at least only a little bit messy, they're too small to let all the mess pile up! Well I mean they're decent sized for student accommodation, I just have a big room at home :') Definitely! Although I hope to still have some energy, and I am praaaying that I don't get freshers flu! or that if I do its not too bad :')

Hahaha, I think i might genuinely have a bigger room there than i do at home, so i'm gonna be revelling in extra space anyway, even if i am really messy :')
What's up with freshers flu? I've heard things about it from people at uni and it just sounds so silly

My rooms really big and it has a big wardrobe/bookcase all along one wall I'm going to struggle with having less space so much :') Going to try and keep it tidy :') Well basically since you're exposed to new people from all over the place, you get exposed to new germs, sorta the same as you do when you start a new school etc except on a bigger scale :') So basically you can get colds/flu from these new germs :') Some people are completely fine and don't get it at all and some get it pretty bad, a mixture of luck and how good your immune system is I guess!

Sorry to intrude on the conversation here but Freshers Flu is real and annoying. I went to a different uni last year and had freshers flu for 6 weeks, although my flat mate broke my rib and I ended up with a chest infection which was pretty annoying but my whole flat got it and I'm not looking forward to it this year, so good luck you may be a lucky person who doesn't get it but most people on campus will.

You can tell you properly took advantage of being the baby of the family - meanwhile i'd consider moving into a cupboard under the stairs as an upgrade  Well, i'm gonna keep my fingers crossed because my immune system has been battered before, hopefully it can take on meeting a few new people and all that :') I'll seriously be upset if i do catch it then, i don't want to miss anything

Haha, crap, i was hoping it was just a rumour like when you go to highschool and get told stories about peoples head being flushed in the loo  Oh well, looks like i'm wearing one of those sickness filter masks for the entirety of my degree

Don't forget the excessive amounts of alcohol as well as the suddenly poor diet

But yeah, lots of people get ill with colds etc. after the first couple of weeks. Thankfully, I've survived two freshers weeks without getting ill  so it is possible.

Haha no it's only usually in Freshers because of all the new people and alcohol and being outside at silly hours. If you don't drink you may be fine but once people in your flat/house get it your screwed. It didn't last that long with most people I was just a special case. I thought it would be fun to scare you though
Just make sure in freshers week you try and stay at a level of drunkness where you can effectively look sober-ish when needed - the Sugarhouse bouncers DO throw people out if they think they're too drunk or alternatively not let them in at all, and the taxis DO charge £75 if you throw up in them. Although it will make a great story down the line, being £75 down/separated from your friends in a new city at 2am = not fun, as some of my flatmates found out the hard way.

Anyway cautionary tale over, enjoy freshers week and the many resulting 'remember in freshers week when...' stories

Well my boyfriend had it last year, so i know how bad it can be! I managed not to catch it from him, but he had it quite bad so I'm hoping to try be a little careful, ie washing hands alot and not eating too badly/drinking too much :') My immune system is generally pretty good so fingers crossed :')

Haha yeah, my brother used to run round after me when I was younger! I think I'm just quite lucky to have a big house and only one sibling! :') Been clearing out junk from my room before I go to uni, I have so so much crap, so I guess one negative of a larger room is you tend to hoard things, whereas if i'd needed the space I'd of cleared them out years ago :') Seriously I still have Sylvanian families dolls in my wardrobe :') Naaat good at clearing things out :')
Yeah me too! hahah defs not a rumour unfortunately :'(

I can already tell you're mean - scaring poor little newbies for fun and all  well i'll face it head on 'cause the drinking is kinda part of the experience! But it would amuse me if you got it again!

Lucky you, my sisters were anything but gentle and caring with me :sigh: I think my equivalent of finding sylvanian families dolls would probably be when i found a set of shiny football cards a month ago, from the 2004/2005 season or something :facepalm2: otherwise, i throw things out pretty soon after they become surplus... Until now when i get a decent sized room! hmmm, would it be rude if i were to ask people if i could spray them with an industrial strength antiseptic before socialising?
Never realised this thread existed until now!!

So happy I got in!

My immune system is pretty bad at the best of times, I'd like to think it might be better this year but I doubt it. That was pretty lucky if you avoided it, best of luck this year though.

If I don't get it again it will be a miracle, my immune system is awful. Yes drinking is part of the experience definitely. I'm just aiming to get rid of it within two weeks this time I don't think there are any lifts in Lancaster so shouldn't be getting a broken rib this time, unless someone takes a strong disliking to me or I fall down the stairs. Which means I should be able to get rid of it quicker, I may just be making excuses though as six weeks is appalling. Can't wait anyway even if I do have to get stupid freshers flu.

What college are you in?

You'll just have to watch your step and try not piss anyone off! Although, i am curious how you broke your rib via a lift though  But my god, how did you even get six weeks of freshers flu?! That might be a record

In my first year I fell ill in about november.
In second year I fell ill soon after freshers week.
In third year I fell ill BEFORE freshers week. Got chest infection, on antibiotics from the sunday of 'moving in weekend' until the sunday of freshers week so couldn't drink (although the only event I actually went to I was running so would have had to be sober for anyway!)
If current trends continue I should be starting to feel ill in a couple of weeks...

I'm doing Marketing Management, so that's close. It's unlikely either of us will find someone doing the exact course, last year your course only had 16 people and mine had 15 (from open day PowerPoint)
hi there, i'm going to do the marketing management too!
