URGENT: University for a Master in International Relations (2013)

Hello everyone,

I know I'm quite late but I really need help with choosing a University for a Masters degree. I am from Germany, applied just a few weeks ago and didn't think that I would receive any/so many offers from British Universities.

I received unconditional offers from:

1. Bristol (International Relations)
2. Aberystwyth (International Relations)
3. Sheffield (International Studies)
4. Brimingham (International Relations)

and a conditional offer from Durham, but I probably don't have the time to meet their conditions. I also applied at Surrey but I didn't receive an answer yet.

Bristol set a deadline for my decision (31 August) so visiting the Universities is not an option. As far as I cut through the jungle of rankings and recommendations Bristol and Aberystwyth are my favorites. But I'm not really sure whether Bristol is good in the field of IR and whether Aberystwyth is really that good (that it is worthwhile to move/travel to such a remote city).

I appreciate any information or advice about the universities, cities, accommodations, their reputation, etc.

May thanks in advance for your help!

Bristol and Aberystwyth are both excellent for IR. You just have to decide if you want the tippety topmost reputational university for IR which is in the back end of beyond in a very small welsh seaside town, or a very good IR university in a happening and easily accessible city. You can't really go wrong with either.

Sheffield, Birmingham, Surrey and Durham are all decent, but not on the same level as the other two.
According to RAE results, Bristol is lower than Sheffield, Durham and Birmingham for IR.

What is your predominant research interest? Pick the university that specialises in that. E.g. Durham focuses on the Middle East.
