Missed out on campus accommodation in York, am I missing out???

I have an offer at the university of York, but due to some complications in clearing I could only accept their offer quite late. Consequently I missed out on accomadation in a college in the campus. Nowi have to find private accomadation outside the university, since in York basically every first year student has accomadation within the university in one of the collages am I really missing out on socialising in the university and on the general experience in York???:frown: Any advise and insight from former or current students at York would be really helpful, thanks:smile:
I suspect that as long as your close to the uni you will still get to know everyone, however you won't get the full experiance.

My mum works close to accommodation in York (wont say name for obvious reason) but she told me that they have about 600 extra people than they thought they were going to due to clearing. So you'll probably be with lots of other first years even in private accomm! And remember you have freshers week so you should be okay

Im in the same situation as you but at lincoln, and im gutted to be honest, campus life is so much fun no matter what people say on here, youll still meet people out and about uni but its nver gunna be the same as social life on campus, in a whole different league, but dont let this ruin your time at york, plenty of people you can still meet and plenty of fun to be had, just gunna have to work alot harder to meet people, good luck

I know a couple of people from last year who were in the same situation, you don't need to be overly worried - just get yourself in a house with some other students (even older ones). You'll probably be better off living with fewer people, anyway, and it'll be quieter when you're trying to sleep. Those I knew off campus in the first year didn't regret having to do it.
Missing out on attack by goose, from what I've heard...

no, York accomadation isnt great tbh
I know someone who got a house about 10 mins' walk from lectures, and he seemed to think it was a pretty good way of living.

Thks for all the advise:smile: I was wondering what would be the best way to get private accommodation, does the university help you out and set you up with other students or do you have to search it out yourself? I'm also a bit worried about who I live with, worried that I won't get along with them, but still have to live with them... Also in general how much is private accommodation outside of the campus, is it cheaper and better quality than the halls? And is it hard to get one close to the campus?

Which accommodation have you been put in? I applied through clearing and have been allocated a managed house in York. I was worried about missing out on everything also but it is quite close to the campus!

There still sorting out something with my clearing application, I switched it from another university after my grades went up, some problem with releasing me into clearing...:frown: I need them to sort it out soon! I've called them a few too many times but i can't apply for accommodation until i have firmed my York place and get a York log in:frown:
