What universities do I apply for?

Hi,

I'm applying for biology at uni and my predicted grades are AAB. I've chosen four uni's already, 2 of them want AAB, 1 wants AAB-ABB and 1 wants ABB. I was wondering would it be ok for my Fifth option to be ABB too, or should I go lower?

I'm predicted AAB and I'm not applying for anything lower than ABB. As long as you're confident you'll get ABB or your uni choices are flexible it should be fine. Personally there wasn't anywhere I'd like to go to lower than that

Personally, I'd actually be tempted to go for one a bit higher, AAA-AAB or something, and take the risk

You should be fine without one lower though I'd say unless you think your predicted grades are unrealistic.

Oh ok  thankyou. It's just I'm getting information from all over the place, and half of it is saying 'go higher' and the other half is 'play it safe', and I'm so confused,

Well, I think I'm pretty confident that I'm going to get the A in psychology, and possibly in history. I'm retaking one bio exam, cos' I had an off day, so there's a chance that could go higher anyway.

Thankyou for your help

I'm fairly confident I won't get lower, the way it's going I should hit AAB or maybe higher. *cross fingers*
I feel exactly the same, my friend's theory is that she'd rather go to a uni she likes or take another year to get the grades, rather than accept a lower one that she won't enjoy as much.

Thankyou very much for your help by the way

What uni's are you thinking of applying to?

Yeah same! I'm putting in so much work for my B subject (coincidentally biology haha) that I think I could probably get AAA or even A*AA

It's alright, glad I helped!

I'm applying for BSc Geography at:
UCL (AAAe-AABe)
Exeter (AAA-AAB)
Cardiff (AAB-ABB)
Loughborough (ABB)
Reading (ABB)

yourself?
Be aware that when a range of offers is stated, you must assume that you will get the higher one, as that is the standard offer. The lower one is for contextual offers or other special circumstances.

Me too. I'm really going to have to push it this year.

Ooh cool

It's BSc biology
Bath (AAB)
Bristol (AAB)
Southampton (AAB-ABB)
Queen mary's (ABB)
and I was thinking Royal holloway, who want ABB but considering the advice I've got, I might aim for a higher one

how you are finding biology by the way?

Nice! I actually went to a biology taster session last year at Bath and loved it

Yeah you should go for it as long as you're alright with going to Southampton or QMUL if you get ABB I reckon.

I'm actually doing a lot better, I think it's because I have a really good teacher this year where as last year they weren't that great! I can actually go as far to say I kind of enjoyed excretion and respiration topics this year  You?

Brilliant  Bath looks so nice, I think they're probably going to be my Firm if I get accepted.
I've been to both SH and QMUL and they were both really nice too, so at least I know I would be happy going to any one of the unis

nice. Yeah I'm actually quite enjoying this year, I have the same teachers though.
But I found the Kidney part of the topic really interesting, and I actually get it, which is always going to make me enjoy a subject haha

It's also really helpful because some of the stuff we cover in bio is turning up in psychology, so I know a bit of the topic before we start

What other subjects do you do?

Good good! Went to see Southampton too, their entrance requirements didn't really fit well into my choices though.

Yeah I ended up learning about the kindey twice (by accident) when I was catching up on work I'd missed, so I'm pretty solid on the that

There's a lot of cross over from biology to geography so I can randomly break out the biology knowledge

I do geography, biology and English lit (I don't even like English but I got a C in AS physics haha) What about yourself? You enjoying psychology?

Fair enough, I just loved the openness of the campus, and the course seemed pretty good

haha Well at least you'll be fine when it comes to the exam

It's pretty useful when that happens. There's another bio student in psych and every time our teacher asks anything biology related our hands shoot up eheh

Nice, I've got friends who do english and I'm not sure how much they're enjoying it :/
I'm doing Biology, psychology and history  I was doing Chem AS but I dropped that for A level, cos it was not working out *shudder*.
Psych is great though, I'm thinking of working that into my bio degree, ya know like focusing on behaviour or neuroscience.

Oh cool! I know people who are applying for medicine who did a taster week at Cambridge in neuroscience- they really enjoyed it

Wow, I'd love to do something like that. But I'm just sticking with the bio degree cos' it's broader and I don't have to specialise in neuroscience until year 3

Warwick would be a good choice with those grades.
