Varies massively from Uni to Uni.

For me, it was honestly one of the best weeks of my life. I'll never forget it, and I still have my freshers wristband 5 years later \o/

Nobody knows. If you're doing it right, you won't remember much afterwards.

Depends what type of person you are. As long as you're outgoing meeting people in your accommodation shouldn't be a problem, night life is quality depending on where you're going to university; especially on freshers. Make sure to attend the freshers fair as well, can pick up plenty of useful things *cough* free pizza *cough*
I loved Freshers week! For me, meeting people in accommodation was easy. I share with 15 other people and we all made friends pretty much instantly. Just go in there with a positive mindset and you'll have a great week.

It depends on two things basically:

1) The type of person you are. If you're quite open-minded, out-going, sociable, then you should have a great time, but this does also depends on the 2nd point below.

2) Who you live with. Lets skip the bull****, people who tell you not living in halls doesn't really impact on your social-life/freshers week, are chatting *******s. Generally, if you're not living in halls, then you have to either make a lot more effort to find people to go out with on freshers week (and weeks after), or you have to get lucky that on the 1-2 hour induction/registration you go to in the beginning of freshers week, you somehow manage to find someone(s) to hang with on nights out.

It is single handledly the most over-rated part of university for these reasons:

1) You'll have a group of people that will just want to drink lots and lots of alcohol, get sick and not remember anything.

2) You'll hear tons of rubbish about freshers will be amazing this and that and really, if you are someone who drinks a lot, it will just be an excuse to drink a lot everyday each night.

3) If you don't drink, then freshers will have absolutely no bearing on you whatsoever and will pass over you like tumbleweed through the wind.

My advice is to just do whatever you enjoy. 95%~100% of the people you meet on freshers you will never talk to again, so just don't believe in the hype.

It sounds like you had a completely difference experience to me, but I completely disagree with everything you've said.

what sort of experience did you have?
Well, Freshers Week has always been great for me because you meet a lot of ppl! You don't really form lifelong friendships with them or sth because there is just sth bout Freshers Week that just brings out knobheads to the center, maybe the nervousness is too much for some and they just can't deal with the fact that they really are not making any friends or hanging out with, well anyone really !

But give it some time and effort and pretty soon you'll be making friends!

There is a lot of drinking involved, a lot of "pulling" goes on as well, its just about having a good time really, and nothing else!

Meeting your flat mates this year was a proper downhill experience for me, but sometimes they were pleasant experiences to an extent. But I do have friends from my course who live in halls, in separate flats so its alrite really! And I do need my space, don't like to have a lot of different of my mates around me all the time, so its okay that way!

Its fun! Look forward to it  !

I agree completely, it's just mindless drinking and meeting people so fast that you have no time to form friendships. I also agree with what someone else said that if you don't live on campus there will be no freshers week for you

You really have nothing to worry about. My previous post was maybe too blunt. Freshers, for many, is a fun, enjoyable experience, but university is much more than just looking forward to freshers each year. Its about learning and finding a passion in something and finding lifelong friends. I hope you get lucky and find a good friend during freshers, but don't worry if you don't because you won't remember/ talk to most of them afterwards

You meet a ****load of people, and if you feel like it, you go out a lot, which includes drinking a lot.

That's about it. Whether you enoy it depends on whether you enjoy that type of thing.

sounds good to me.

plus you get to weed out the squares who don't drink.
So what about party/drinking haters? (No I don't mean the shy ones) Do they just stay in their room? :/

If you don't drink/are an introvert/hate clubbing, you'll get a lot less out of Freshers'. If, like me, you're all three, you'll hate it. Staying in my room was **** but going out was a whole lot worse. Best week of my life my arse.

Lol. I feel you. Sigh! The world is being moulded to suit the extroverts...
