I'm quite shy around new people anyway, and the idea of nights out doesn't particularly appeal to me... A night in with pizza and milkshakes sounds much more like me! Haha. Which college are you in/what are you studying?

This sounds much more appealing! Anything with millkshake sounds appealing tbh. Which college are you in? I'm in Pendle!

Also, I agree with a pizza and milkshakes meetup!

Slightly related, this quote seems rather apt: http://i.imgur.com/bqTCXTR.jpg

Didn't see this post, but it pretty much sums up my life. Most of my friends have no problem with me being an introvert but it's the new people I meet. Much too eager to tag me 'rude' or worse 'shy'! :/ but hey, I'm proud of who I am
There's a wonderful TED talk by Susan Cain called The power of introverts. She talks about how the norm is to encourage extroversion and why it's wrong. It's very inspiring, definitely recommended for all the extroverts

That sounds really interesting. I'm doing mechanical engineering and still a little bit unsure as to what to expect on the course.

It'll be strange if I meet people and then realise months down the line I'd been talking to them on here for a while already.

True, but what would an alcohol-free society do?

"Anyone drank alcohol this week?"

"Nope"

"Okay, meeting adjourned"

I'm doing Mechanical Engineering aswell, but I'm living at home and commuting everyday

Brilliant! So where could we meet? Are we allowed to just sit in a kitchen and order pizza? Or do we have to go to a restaurant?

I have! It looks pretty good. I'm intrigued as to what a 'charity shop social' entails...

Someone's put an explanation on the facebook page now  Not something I would have been able to guess!

Yup, nothing stopping you!

You probably already know that each college has its own bar which you can meet up at, and there's a few other decent places to eat, such as Pizetta or the burger bar.

Well we're on the same course so say hi if you see me! My name's Anna and I have green hair (and am therefore easily identified so you'll know if you're talking to the right person)

I want to try canoeing! I've done a bit of it before, but not seriously.

Same actually! Although with everything I want to do I'm starting to worry about cost. Fencing kit isn't cheap and I also want to start climbing properly...

I'm in county  what are you studying?
Hey! I'm going into second year now but I was on last years 'non drinkers' thread so I can relate! For those who were saying about having pizza, I have two suggestions:

-order dominos to your flat; they go around in freshers week with codes for 50% off all year so you can get it pretty cheap!
- go to pizzetta on campus. Really nice atmosphere and pizza is pretty good!

Thanks zazzles! So who wants to order pizza and who wants to go to pizzetta?

Where abouts do you live?

Also just realised I posted three replies separately instead of altogether, oops.

Just in Standish, Wigan only a 30 mins train ride.
I don't drink and I've never been clubbing and the idea of it doesn't appeal to me whatsoever. The idea of just leaving my room terrifies me so I think freshers week will just entail pizza with TV show marathons :P I'm studying computer science btw

I'm worried that because I find it so hard to go put and socialise, even at the events for non drinkers, I'm worried that I won't be able to go out because my head won't let me. And that I'll make no friends and I'll just spend the next 3 years locked in my room.

I'm not keen on clubbing or drinking (genuinely don't like the taste, not bothered about the idea of drinking..) but I do want to meet people! Go to the odd non drinkers event and you'll be fine. I'm going to the castle and ghost walk but that's about it. Join some societies, I'm doing IT for Creative industries!
