We all have weaknesses. Mine too is gambling and that is why I don't do it. At least you have identified it is a problem.

I rarely win but when I've won a couple of big ones (3k and 2.5k) but I can bet up to 300 pound a day depending on what I've got in the bank. I bought a car with my first big win then the 2nd most of it went on gambling

I don't know I self excluded myself from most of the websites but not all of them as I'd rather not end up down the shop or gambling on other things other than football (something I feel is something I am better at)

I told my doctor this morning and I'm pretty certain it's because of my medication I take anyway as it's listed as a possible side effect. I never used to do it. The medication will be reduced just hope the addiction hasn't consumed me too much by the time I stop the medication.

Well I wish I had that logic when it comes to quitting.

Anyway my point is do you think it's one of the worst habits and I dream of being successful but obviously this is a cause for concern. I hear it splitting up families and people becoming thieves. Is this likely to happen to me if I carry on? I'd say I can have days without gambling mainly because football matches are very limited and only on certain days. I only do it online wouldn't bother going to the shop

Cool... is this in the bookies or a casino?

An addiction to gambling is very, very serious. While an addiction to alcohol or cocaine is very bad for your health, there is a limit to how much you can spend on it, whereas you could lose everything in a short period of time through gambling.

As another poster said, recognising that you might have a problem is a massive step. Do not be ashamed to seek help if you think you need it.
You should quickly seek help before you lose everything and have a mountain of debts.

Have 2 uncles that my late granddad left them with close to a £1mil each in inheritance only for it to be gambled away and now each has debts in the hundreds of thousands with absolutely nothing to show for it.

There are many places you could go to seek help, best to go for it as quickly as possible.

I do it mainly online but I did go to the bookies today with one pound hat wasn't even mine anyway found it in the house and I always bet on football and that was first time I went to bookies since I've had a problem with gambling I was desperate enough to place a pound on

That's a sad story if I won a million I would invest it in a big house for example and pay it off in a lump sum as for the rest of the money I don't know but I can't guarantee it wouldn't go on gambling. I kind of enjoy it in a weird demonic way but I know it's wrong and I should stop just like the way I smoke

Casinos have been on my mind lately... maybe i should divert some of my fat stacks to gambling (providing i win lots ofc)

Believe it or not, the elder uncle prior to inheriting the money he had never been a gambler.

After he had the money, first he started buying lottery tickets and was lucky because he won £700k from it. After that he went to a casino and tried his luck again for the first time, went with £60k and came out with £300k, it made him think he was invincible and knew how to beat the odds at the casino. Then over the course of 6 months he lost every single pence he had inherited and then took loans from an illegal money lender to fund it. Cars went, house got repossessed and wife plus kids left him too.

Don't let that happen to you.

Lots I'd say 70% of my money. The rest goes on bills. I do sometimes spend on other things but as I don't do much else apart from a football team that my mum will sometimes pay towards as that it pretty expensive. I'm 25 and on minimum wage still and only work part time. I don't want to gamble more as I earn more but could be the case if I don't seek help

I would honestly try and get help.

Just remember that your life would most likely considerably improve if you stop gambling. You are essentially just working to pay for your addiction.

If you feel you need the excitement through the rush of gambling - perhaps do something else but without the detriment of financial loss, such as online gaming. Exercise can also be good to improve mood and keep your mind occupied

Thanks for the advice and the link I've just joined the forum they have and hopefully the doctor will respond with some positive news soon regarding a referral. As far as the exercise goes I am planning on joining the gym anyway I feel the more I spend on other things the less I have for gambling lol but to be honest I have a cushy life at the moment my mums pretty lenient and will help me financially anyway obviously not to support gambling but for football which I play which in return I pay the equal amount in rent so I have it pretty well off but one day I'd like to move house and support myself but if not the mortgage is paid off at my current home and my mum doesn't particularly want me to leave anyway so at least being homeless is out of the equation I suppose. Anyway back to the gambling... I've been gambling very little recently but only because I've had very small amounts of money just wish I could gamble sensibly as a lot of my friends do :frown:
Roulette always gets me. Especially at Casino's. People always want to try and win back what they've lost. But just end up losing more.
