Soas vs City for PhD Econ?

Need some guidance. Am planning to apply both. Please unbiase your view as much as you can, based on teaching quality and job prospects.

If you want to become an academic, SOAS hands down.

No I don't want to be an academic. I want a well-respected research degree, am aiming for MPhil first. Mainstream vs Non-mainstream. but city was a polytech.

SOAS still. City doesn't have as strong of an academic reputation as SOAS does.

Teaching quality is a bit of an irrelevance for a PhD. Find out who you want to work with and go to wherever they are.

If you are going into research, you should have at least some idea in what your interests are and I would strongly recommend you to talk to a member of academic staff at your current institution to point you to people in that area.
