TSR is a public area, and - lo and behold! - Cambridge staff actually have access to internet too... so they could very well be scanning this page at this very moment. To put it briefly, no Cambridge student wants be caught calling their supervisor a [optional obscenity].

And also the fact that it's rather unfair to recieve useful information from current students when other applicants won't... ? If you want to find out their specialisms, then their academic profiles are on the internet (not that sucking up will do you much good!); otherwise just assume that they're nice, or else they wouldn't be interviewing you, and that's all the information you need to know.

Thanks for your advice. However, I am not re-sitting any exams except for the BMAT, which is allowed. Since I haven’t gotten my results back, I will see how my marks are before I decide what to do. The main point of my post was to really inquire about re-application to the exact same college… Why would it be inadvisable if I really did have a true passion for Clare? Don’t get me wrong, I would still be applying for 2009 anyway (I applied for deferred because I was too young) and I would be spending my year off constructively.

Ah, I see, well, that's slighly better then. Though all my advice about not focusing *too* much on Clare still applies. Find out for definite why you were rejected, and if it was for any reason other than your BMAT I really would suggest you apply to another college. There are lots of other nice ones, you know; don't write them off just because they're not Clare. Powodzenia.

Also, a quick question about interview dress. What are most of the people who turn up for Clare interviews wearing? I know in the interview videos they are casual, but I'm not convinced. What would you say if you saw someone dressed like I am in my profile pic?

Pffff, I wore jeans and a hoodie to my interview. It really doesn't matter.
In the information sheet they sent it says explicitly not to wear a suit doesn't it? :s-smilie:

Hehe, I wasn't expecting anyone to criticise any of them, but for instance if someone was asking what Dr Datta at Pembroke was like, I would tell them that she is very nice, incredible at maths and quite scary in an interview :p:
Everyone's niiiiice  (except the non-nice ones :p:)

What you wearing in ur profile pic is fiiine, that's the kind of level of *smartness* that most people were in when i was at interview!

Also, it'll soon become clear that, no matter what a fellow's subject/specialism is, they all seem to know EVERYTHING!!

I'm just going to go ahead and assume that there aren't any non-nice ones :p:

Well, it's not just that.

What's the problem with saying what they're like?
If you'd read Cal's announcement at the top of the forum...
Just a reminder that, after incidents in previous years, people should not be posting/discussing actual questions and or interviewers they have had.
Not only can this comprimise the interview system, you can also be helping out your competition!

You may or may not have signed a "confidentiality agreement", but we would appreciate no discussion regardless. Misconforming with this will be dealt with appropriately - be wary that there's nothing stopping Tutors seeing what you've posted here.

Oooh, sorry, I went out with friends for the morning... it retrospect it would've been better to stick around to say goodbye to people properly. Bah. At least we have facebook.
Oh, it's worse if you're having to LIVE in college over Christmas... no more getting up at 1pm and then meandering over to the FML at about 4pm, then working til midnight.... error!

I worked full time over the Christmas in my first year, and I only missed Clare because it was a lot more fun and less stress- 50+ hours a week at Morrisons isn't to be recommended to anyone!

Okayy, so I'll be at Clare from the evening of the 5th to the afternoon of the 6th.

Just wondering if there is a set time that people have their evening meal? (also it will be at The Buttery, right?)

I guess I'll go to my room, unpack... then perhaps have my evening meal... what do people tend to do from 6/7 onwards? Go the the JCR? Do any interviewees usually go the The Cellars etc? I just don't want to be a loner all evening... lol.
I love the way you're capitalising everything. And using "The". Sorry to sound patronising, but it's cute!

Buttery O'Clock is 6:15 onwards. Most people will be there at 6:30ish. It finishes at 7:15.

Afterwards, I think people may go to Cellars (which is the JCR btw) or something, or maybe hang out over in Mem. I don't know, I was a loner when I was interviewed and, now, I'm living in the Arctic Wastes of the Colony!
I think The Buttery and The Cellars are worth capitalising

Haha! I thought they were meant to be capitalised... :p:

Thanks! That'll work out well for me then.

Oh right, didn't realise they were the same thing (all new to this Clare stuff :p:)

Cheers
Well, TBH, at the moment the only people around will be other interviewees who you can chat to, people who've stayed on after term to look after you (who will definitely try and chat to you) and people who have dissertations and other work (who will either be in hiding in their rooms, working, or dossing in the bar/Cellars and will be up for procrastinatory chat). So go to Buttery/Cellars and anyone you see will be up for a chat!

Of course, it escaped my mind that it's the holidays already for all Cam students.

I'm travelling up tomorrow, eek. Need to pack my bag now... lol.
Ooo it's exciting isn't it?!

I've just realised my interview was exactly one year ago today!

Good luck and hopefully in exactly one year and a day from now, you will be able to say the same!!
