In-text referencing MLA style

Hi there, I'm currently writing my dissertation but am kind of stuck on a referencing issue. One of my sources is an essay which is part of a collection of essays in a book, and I'm unsure of whether I should use the name of the author of the essay I'm using, or whether I should use the name of the editor of the book who compiled all the essays together.

So, to illustrate this better: Smith has written an essay which Johnson has included in a book of essays on a topic. When I reference this in my dissertation, do I cite it in-text as "The sky is blue" (Smith 1) or "The sky is blue" (Johnson 1)?

I'm using MLA style. I've been googling a bit but can't figure this one out, so I'd love some help!
